John grew up on a small subsistence farm in rural western Washington. He was an avid reader from a very early age, and by the age of eleven he had read the entire Book of Knowledge encyclopedia and many of the Greek and Roman classics - but he didn't think about writing as a vocation for 50 years.
His career as a U.S. Navy Musician sent him all over the world and gave him a glimpse into many cultures and an appreciation for people of all kinds. His writing was limited to writing promotional materials for touring musical groups, press releases, and managing media relations.
John's second career as a human resources practitioner and talent management systems consultant gave him a deep understanding of the dynamics of people and work. His consulting projects included talent management systems for dozens of organizations from a tiny publishing company to large aerospace companies to global household products behemoths.
When he retired from systems consulting, he began studying writing, thinking it would be a very interesting way to amuse and express himself. His course of study exposed him to copywriting, and he began writing for companies in his consulting niche.
John now writes on many topics in many venues. He enjoys the creative outlet of writing for the web.
Johnny Allen a pen name of copywriter and marketer John W. McCoy.
