JWilk (Jim Wilkie) is a former Communications professor and father of one who lives in Elkins, West Virginia. He was born in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1962. At present, he is a part time Adult Care Worker and Life Skills Teacher at a mental health organization. He greatly enjoys working with some 30 mentally disadvantaged adults. He also works as a copy eidtor and writes about the mentally disabled, travel advice, along with rumor transmission theory and other matters dealing with human communication and behavior.
As a child, JWilk spent his formative years in Pennsylvania. His father still resides in Mechanicsburg, Pa. where Jim went to high school. He has a B.A. in General Communications from Slippery Rock University, an M.A. in Speech Communication from Auburn University, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Missouri.
He has taught Communication for over 30 years years at small and large liberal arts colleges and universities. His academic specialties are Journalism, Speech, and the Mass Media, along with being an expert on rumor/gossip. He has written and edited for college/university newspapers and has managed college/university radio stations.
JWilk is an avid animal enthusiast and has a Beagle mix named Sophie. He loves to spend time with his daughter and his dog on nights and weekends. He also loves to attend rock concerts. He enjoys listening to Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Peter Frampton, Van Halen, and in particular, Led Zeppelin. He has been to over 80 concerts in his lifetime, including some of the bands mentioned above. Finally, he loves sports and is an avid fan of various teams, particularly the Boston Red Sox and Auburn University football (2010 National Champions!).
