Born in Taiwan but raised here in the States, he benefited from the upbringing of combining both East and West roots.
After spending most of his early "wonder years" in New Jersey, John studied Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Tech in Chicago before joining the Navy.
Fascinated by aviation, he traveled to the far corners of the world as an naval aircraft maintenance officer before pursuing his love of information technology.
During his final years of service, John earned his MBA in IT management through evening classes at American University right across the street from his duty station in Washington DC.
Meanwhile, he explored his love of aikido and swing dance.
Things took a dramatic turn when John finally realized that he had served his time and left the Navy, moving to the San Francisco Bay Area.
While using his IT background as a project manager for AT&T, John discovered a new passion for Argentine tango.
This has led into an eight year romance chronicled in part in his blog, Zen and the Art of Tango.
Over the years his fascination with business and real estate has led to his obtaining a DRE license and starting his business brokerage practice in 2006. Read more about this at Zen and the Art of Exit Strategy.
