Maria Cross MSc has been a nutritionist and writer for over 20 years.  Her fourth book, The Body Clock Diet: 24 Ways in 24 Hours to Achieve Your Ideal Weight was published in January 2016.

Maria practises what she preaches, but that was not always the case. She grew up in London, with absolutely no interest in diet or health. After a misspent early adulthood, where healthy food played no part and cigarettes, wine and late nights were pivotal, she eventually found herself strangely drawn to the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. She originally studied modern languages, and after graduation headed off to Italy, spending three years absorbing the culture and way of life. Food - good, fresh, well-cooked food - played a significant role in her re-education. Returning to the UK, she brought with her an appreciation of the value of eating well, which was to evolve into a love of both good food and good health. Imagine her surprise when she discovered that the two were joyfully compatible.

After returning to the UK she began to study nutrition. This was to be her passion in life. It also put paid to half a lifetime of intestinal misery, but that's another story.
