Hi my name is Patrick Ryan. I grew up in South Buffalo, NY which years ago was the predominantly Irish Catholic part of the city of Buffalo. It is located about 45 minutes from Niagara Falls, 20 minutes from the Canadian border, an hour and a half from Toronto and roughly 3 and a half hours from Cleveland, Ohio. I now live in the Southern Tier of Western New York which is very close to the Pennsyvania border. It's approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from the city. I moved away from the city of Buffalo in the fall of 2010 to be with the two loves of my world, Kara and Abbey, in the Southern Tier and I couldn't be happier getting to come home to them everyday! I moved back up to the Buffalo area and out of the Southern Tier of NYS in 2012. I love being back where I grew up.
I had a pretty typical but fun upbringing in a small tight knit neighborhood with good schools and an unbelievable family! I have 5 siblings who are absolutely amazing! I grew up playing ice hockey at Caz and West Seneca ice rinks and going to Sabres games with my father through the back door of the old Aud. Sitting on the porch with my mom in the summer talking about life was also something I will never forget. My family is everything to me so it was difficult to make the move an hour and a half away from them, but it was even more difficult not being with "my girls". I had no choice really; I had to go! It has taken a little getting used to being away from the city and my family.
Rural life is starkly different than city living. I found that out fairly quickly after making the move to 'the sticks'. For instance, this winter I will be using wood and coal to heat to home instead of natural gas which 97% of city dwellers use for warmth. It definitely requires a learning curve but I AM learning!
I could go on but I'll allow you to discover more about me and my life through my writings.
