How To Get Over A Hang Over - Best Hangover Remedies
87
If you have a million piledrivers splitting your head, have just enough energy to prise your eyelids open, and want a quick solution, skip the first part of my hub, with my apologies. After you are better, and resolve not to have a hangover again, return to this point in my hub to find out how.
First, let's see how you can avoid hangovers.
1. Eat before and during the drink session, not after.
Some people I know drink on an empty tummy, dummies! That contributes to early nausea, headaches, not regulating the quantity of food, and funny pix of you posted over the net.
And when you get sozzled silly, you might think it a good idea to skip dinner and go straight to bed. Next time you do that, you deserve the ensuing hangover!
2. Eat lots of fruit and salads.
Alcohol in, vitamins out. So you need to compensate for those. So indulge in salads for sidesnacks, and drink glasses of orange and grape juice beforehand. I don't know if the juice in your vodka counts, sorry.
3. Milk and Curds.
I learnt this from a Brit friend. Before going out to wild parties, take in a lot of curds or milk. This gives an antinausea lining to your stomach walls. Unless you want to be really wild!
4. Know thyself.
Stick to your drinking limits and you are safe. When I mix a beer session with rum or whisky, like I once did to oblige a stupid friend, I get a mega hangover the morning after. If something does not work for you, don't do it.
5. Drink H2O.
Many of my hangovers were due to my not drinking enough water. So pour in glasses of water, before and after session.
6. Cut down on smoking.
Sometimes the smoke is the culprit. More the cigarette count, the worse you feel later. If you don't smoke, choose a chair away from the smoke, or move your chair, if possible.
It also makes sense not to sit in bar corners where the smoke remains longer. Central areas are better.
7. Slow and Steady.
Space out your drinks, or go slow. The fewer your drinks within a timeperiod, the less you are affected. Ah, yes, it kills the fun a bit, too.
8. Dance, talk, sing.
Involve yourself in an interesting activity; don't just sit there gulping down the drinks. You get less sozzled that way. Also cuts the danger of you dropping off to sleep, which is instant nausea when you wake up. And sing or dance only where you can. Though if you are bounced early enough, you won't have a big hangover, so singing and dancing is a good thing!
9. Get a good night's sleep.
Sensible folks indulge only on Saturdays, and can sleep it off on Sunday. Less sleep could be the reason for your condition, friend, go back to sleep!
Throwing up
Many folks have brought it to my kind attention that forcing yourself to throw up is a hangover cure. Friends, let me not stop you! Throw up if you want, but do it only if you already feel pukey. Pushing three fingers into throat and doing a toilet plunger act is not my idea of a hangover cure.
If you feel like throwing up, don't try to stop it. Ideally, get out of bed to do so. Most people do it when they brush their teeth.
After you have donated your exdrinks and snacks to the sink, you feel like a whole new person. Weak, but clean!
Cures
Okay, okay, the top of your head comes off every time an ant passes by, and this stupid guy is giving you tips on how to avoid it next time? Stop swearing and listen:
1. Drink lots of water or juice. (You could be dehydrated.)
2. Drink soup.
3. Eat something, specially fruits and salads.
4. Go back to sleep.
5. Take a nice, hot, bath.
6. Bite into a piece of ginger.
7. Be nice to people. (Of course. Unwise to get into arguments now.)
8. Have rice with curds.
9. Stil there? Go back to sleep, do it now!

Delighted with your request and comment!
And hubbers, note kpfingaz's tip, too: Hot green or black tea! Sweat your alcohol out. Soup lovers, drink soup!
Great Hub and WONDERFUL picture up top there, Kenny!
One fellow I know eats ice cream before going to bed in order to keep his blood sugar level from dropping so far, he says. He feels it works, but I don't know. :)
Patty, that's me distorted, thanks!
Okay, I'll research icecream as a hangover cure! Don't mind trying it out myself! :)
Sometimes it helps if you drink water before you go to sleep!
Yes, of course, Yohan! I said so in two places.
Keep drinking water before and after, and if possible, during.
But though it's good for me, I won't add water to my beer!
All said well. But if I follow at least half of these tips, I don't think I will ever have time enough to get drunk! Perhaps I will like a hub better, on 'how to live comfortably with your hangovers' LOL
Cheers and Bottoms up!
PS: 'Kenny, Distorted' is a good picture! Can I use it elsewhere with your permission?
Just follow the curds and water tips, SunSeven, and you'll be fine. That's what I do. Cheers!
Can I refuse you anything? Please use the pic, with my compliments!
On second thoughts, the much used cliche 'the best way to avoid a hangover is to stay drunk'!
Thank you for your permission to use the pic. Eagerly looking forward to your next instalment in the colors series,
'Color Part _ - Caramel, all tints and shades'
Caramel? You must be joking. Oh....you are! lol!
I have answered your request for a how to draw hub, but lowrychris has beaten me to the name! Sigh!
errr.... gr..... well, I don't know. I thought it was the color used in some brandys and rums. Thank you for answering my request. I will be there in a moment.
Thank you! lol!
This was great. I am a big milk guy before I go out but i do smoke too much when drinking.
I smoke too much too, Nicholas, and that's the biggest reason fo rmy hangovers! Good for your milk drinking habit!
Coca cola works wonders for me the morning after a big party. I cannot face coffe if I am hangover, but the caffeine on the Cola is enough to pick me up!
Haven't tried that, Princessa, thanks!
Had two in my short life.
one put me to bed for one week. My mother decided I had food POISONING, naturally like a good son I agreed with her.
Also decided never ever go to another Sunday Wedding, drink Carlsburg Beer and wedding cake to Eat.
Finally no more hangovers. I kept the 2nd requirement of my new life but have been to some Sunday Weddings. Ate the cake, never drank any more Carlsburg.
Now a great Life.
Cheers, MrMarmalade!
the best way to avoid a hangover, is well, not to drink, but that takes all the fun out of it doesn't it?
check my hub
You are absolutely right, Ulises, on both counts!
Good tips. Thanks for posting.
And thank you for the appreciation, CTCV.
Wow! Where were you when I was in law school? I defend a lot of individuals accused of driving while intoxicated, is this hub copyrighted(?), or can I include it in my info packet?
Peter, thanks for that wow! If my hub is useful for your good work, please include it in your packet. If you can, credit me.
Very witty hub! Some people like to have bitters and soda for a hangover. When I'm queasy, my husband mixes bitters into a Coca Cola with some lemon for me and then, I can rest easily. I like the idea of biting on a piece of ginger, too. As for the three fingers down the throat, I just hope houseguests would use the wc instead :-)
Bitters and soda. With Coke and lemon.
Biting into ginger.
Two bonus points for our readers and me, Thank you, Guru!
Three fingers AND the wc, ofcourse, lol!
Good advice for this time of year! There's probably more hangovers on Jan. 1 than any other day of the year. For me, I hope hangovers are a thing of the past.
You are a lucky one, William! Cheers and Merry Christmas!
Drink what you drank to get drunk... It's always worked for me. Just one shot or glass of whatever you were drinking the night before.
It may sound stupid, but it works. I'm not sure how...
Ok, Jaymz, tip taken! If it works, it works! Thanks!
Oh My..First thing I learned was that the sweet drinks were the worst for obtaining a hang-over..second thing was don't drink tequila he he ha ha...and also agree with having like a bloody mary in the morning to perk you up??? Although the ginger also works..so does sleep and much water.. we are all different and drink differently so you need to find what works for you and then do that. You Kenny are hard to keep up with after 3 weeks off ...G-Ma :O) Hugs you
As always Kenny, another entertaining and informative hub..
Happy new year to you sir:)
hehe - A timely hub as I woke this morning with an almighty hangover. My usual cure is water, more water, bacon, eggs, pancakes, aspirin, andrews liver salts, more water and a hot bath, so you are pretty much bang on. But as SunSeven says, the only sure cure is to stay drunk. Have a great 2008
New Year hugs and kisses to you, G-Ma!
Happy New Year to you, too, Sir Compu-Smart! :)
Have a great year, Mark. I envy you;
didn't have a massive hangover this time to try out any cure!
Only my voice dropped to a heavy bass and I was a bit sleepy.
That's all.
SunSeven's advice is sensible but no fun and seems like I half followed it!
I've tried the drink what made you get hung over to make it go away... It really does work. I've only tried it on liquor though. I don't know if it works on other alcoholic beverages.
By the way nice hub, Kenny.
Good that it works, Whitney, but that's only a short time cure. What if your body actually needs water or sleep? The drink can probably perk you up immediately, but after that it's better to address other issues. :)
Thank you.
Kenny, I read through your hub and enjoyed the information. But may I declare (gulp) that I never had a hangover in my life? I don't drink, never have. Geez writing that here seems like "blasphemous???" Hahahaha sorry for leading a seemingly boring life. :-) But well, I'm happy! I guess that's what counts huh? Cheers!
Michelle, if the other extreme is being drunk and disorderly, you have erred n the side of safety! Atleast you had fun reading this, hehe!
Salut!
Umm, and this one is two months old and I just stumbled upon it ;) There is some excellent advice here, Kenny :)
Well, I guess Russians are known to be proficient in drinking, and that implies we have to be proficient in dealing with hangovers, too :) Surprisingly, I found myself in agreement with most of your Indian tips - which makes me thinking Indians and Russians are not that different after all :P
There are some variations, though. We usually use butter, not milk, as a preventive measure. Afterwords, when disaster strikes in the morning, the best cure is some more alcohol - as been mentioned by many others here. It actually does not matter what kind of alcohol, but human beings usually can't consume strong spirits under heavy hangover, so light beer is universally accepted as the best cure.
Kefir is even better. I normally hate kefir, but I remember myself one morning sitting on the stairs of the grocery store and pouring two half-liter bottles of kefir into my throat, one after another without any interval... I can't even tell what a pleasure I was experiencing in the process :D
Salty brine from pickles is universally accepted as the best non-alcoholic liquid to consume in the morning.
Fat, very fat, better extremely fat food is a must. "Hush" - very dense fatty soup made of offal is considered the best.
And my very own home-grown tip - go get some excersise or physically challenging task. The more you move, the faster hangover evaporates :)
Welcome Misha, to my old hub and thanks for refreshing it! Now your Russian tips are a bonus value for new visitors. :)
I guess people have to find out what works for them best.
For you, exercise, for me, sleep. For example.
I'll try salty pickle brine next time. :)
Sure. And I think sleep works for everybody, though :)
Thanks for the return visit!
Maybe exercise, then sleep for you. I forgot to tell you, for a friend, going to the gym works, just like you said.
Alcohol will deplete your body of both fluids and B vitamins. Taking a B complex before you drink and again before you go to sleep, with a large glass of water will help you to wake up feeling much better. Take another in the morning and you will be good as new.
If you are feeling sick after drinking, it is best to eliminate the second dosage though. No point in flushing a perfectly good vitamin down the toilet. ;)
Hi Margaret! Nice and bright profile pic you have. :)
That sounds like a very sensible tip to add to my hub.
Groggy friends, please note!
kenny
thats a nice hub
let me tell you that hangovers are best avoided by having a non alcoholic welcome drink which do not have salt or acid. lime has acid mind you
a bland soup ,water melon juice and pumpkin juice are good
avoid citrus fruit juices .it has acidity and vit c
again avoid grapes and grape juice
the idea is to get the system hydrated adequately and the cells are fluid full
then the meal or supper or dinner should start simultaneously with serving drinks after a small course which may or maynot be the main meal course.
that is why wine is served with food.
offering drinks first along with acid stimulating bites followed or deprived by dinner is a wrong approach
the whole process of alcohol consumption should be to like a pilot flying
load up the system with water
revv
fasten to seat belt(meals)
take off will have to be half of your uppper limit of consumption
then top up once in a while with a one third quota
mix with meals as you fly high
move around dance laugh
then top up again
keep cruising
once your upper limit is reached dilute your drink with more water
so that you make a smooth landing
the bottom line is never drink when you are alone and never drink when you feel low
i am compelled to recall my seniors advice -the credit goes to meyyappan -a spiritual? master- since i am a teetotaller
or wake up, realize you are still a bit drunk, search for aspirine, chug a bunch of water, barff it out, take the tylenol and go back to bed. The culprit...cheep beer. The more expensive the beer the less I drink. lol.
Thanks for the wow bonus, TinyTeddy; it's a hub in intself!
Sandra, that's a very good trip: drink expensive; drink less! LOL
I had to come back and ask, does Capri Sun count as juice?
Ah, Sandra, welcome back. Anytime!
If Capri Sun works as a hangover remover for you,
that's what counts, juice or not. Does it, though?
Hi! Here it is - the secret wisdom of the ages; I have NO idea why it works but it does.
Pickle Juice (don't eat the pickles)
Drink the pickle juice BEFORE you go to bed (if you can remember to) and if not, do it in the morning, get back in bed and trust me, unless you already felt like vomiting, YOU WON'T - it will stay down - sleep some more - and wake up - shower and feel like - well, at least a thousand bucks! :}

Thank you for your valuable business!=====================
I dont know, it doesnt sound too apealing (capri sun) after drinking, but I have a lot so, I will try it out, probably this weekend and let yall know.
Melanie, thank you for the pickle juice tip. Shall try it once and see.
Sandra, you have chosen to do something disagreeable
just to further our hangover cure education.
Thank you and take care!
Dear Fahad, some jinx in the works. Your comment suddenly popped up from somewhere! Apologies on behalf of the jinx, and thanks for the appreciation.
Lemme know when you try the pickle juice - OK?
Melanie :}
naa, I didnt really do it.
Sure, will tell you, Melanie. :)
Okay, Sandra, maybe it's a good thing you didn't. :)
To prevent a hangover, use what the Soviet KBG used.
The product is now available and is called RU-21. You take it while you're drinking. It is amazing how well it works.
The KGB actually stole the recipe from Dr. Emanuel Revici, the subject of my book.
Kelley Eidem
Thank you, Kelley for giving an intro to RU-21. Hope it doesn't reduce the enjoyment of the drink?
A good way to deal with is smectic minerals such. In one hour you are done.
Thanks, Fibro!
all simple things you can do, but informative , I like the way you write and funky picture on top so cool hub
well,i should say ,a another good hub from you.Ithink i follow most of the tips like eating, drinking in small amounts, drinking curd, butter milk and yeah, you are right, we must drink lots of water as we generally get dehydrated during drinking.
Victory to your drinking sessions, then! You will definitely not suffer! :)
hey im suffering with a hangover at the moment ive started on the water n im gonna try out some of ur other remedies lol and im definatly goin to have another sleep lol.
Can't beat sleep and water, so hope you try that first! All the best Kiz!

lol... jeez man I like your style...witty and informative.
Just too add...I've gotten over hangovers by drinking some hot green or black tea. Helps sweat that alcohol out.
