The Weather For a Price

Bob Dylan once said, “You don’t need a weather man to tell which way the wind blows.” Even though he wasn’t kidding and his words were certainly prophetic enough for their time, with My Cast, all you have to do to find out the forecast these days is ask your cell phone. (This is ideal for those among us who consider looking out the window or turning on the television or radio passé.)

MyCast is available from all major cell phone carriers including Verizon and Sprint. The cost of $3.99 per month is added to your existing monthly cell phone account. (There should be a sucker surcharge, but unfortunately there isn’t. P.T. Barnum, where are you when we need you?) One can only wonder what, according to MyCast, would be considered a fair price for a snowflake, a blizzard, a drop of rain, a flash flood or a ray of sunshine. Will the next technological advance provide cell phones that will have the power to create the weather in addition to predicting it?

One of the features of MyCast is the automatic alert that beeps your mobile phone when a storm is approaching. (This is perfect for those among us who can’t tell by looking at the sky and listening to the screams of those standing nearby.) MyCast will also let you know when lighting strikes within 20 miles of your position, which will give you enough time to take cover but not enough to regret ordering this redundant and very silly service.

MyCast does offer continuous radar images and flashing watches, warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service, which can be very helpful if you are in the road and your car radio doesn’t work.

Hurry up and don’t sign up for MyCast now!
