Alarm Clock (Side View)

It Gets To Know You

Waking up to face a new day can be a very traumatic experience as one is riveted not to the soft pillow where one’s head has lain so peacefully but rather on the crunching, annoying reality of a loud and booming alarm clock defying you to remain as you are. The aXbo Alarm Clock, which hails from Austria, is very kind, as the alarm goes off within a thirty-minute window before your desired wake up time.

The sleek aXbo Alarm Clock is very considerate, as it takes the time to know you and monitors your sleep patterns, waking you at the best moment possible. Your body movements correspond to the various stages of sleep and your own unique pattern is submitted wirelessly (and surreptiously, I might add) to the spies that live within the clock itself. The culprit is the hidden sensor, which lives rent-free inside the sweatband. The aXbo alarm clock can support up to two people. The aXbo has a very patient clock mechanism, and over time it learns and optimizes the wake-up moment for each person.

Whoever invented the aXbo Alarm Clock had many good hours of sleep and probably ate a lot of fish and other brain food. The alarm clock has many really cool features, including the display, which automatically switches off. By using that sneaky little sweatband, you can also switch it back on again briefly to check the time. This alarm clock only needs one hand to operate it effectively; you can keep the other two in your ears or behind your back or anywhere else you like. The aXbo Alarm Clock comes with three rechargeable batteries and can automatically recharge them when needed.

If you are a bit paranoid, you will not get much rest knowing that your alarm clock is keeping track of all your movements while you are in your most vulnerable state, namely, sleeping. The aXbo Alarm Clock is always there, taking notes on your turning, thrashing, tossing and whatever. You have a little redemptive power, however, as you must remember that it is always you who sets the window during which it can wake you (even if you might want to jump out of it when it does).

There is no question that the aXbo Alarm clock will not help you sleep better, but it is possible that you might feel more refreshed when you do wake up. This can only happen if you can afford the $250 (199 euros) you will have to pay for the privilege of trying it out. Can the axBo Alarm Clock receive alien messages? I couldn’t say for sure.

What do you say?
