I come from a family of veterans of foreign wars. My father served in World War II as an Army staff sergeant and my brother served in Viet Nam as an air Force technical sergeant. My grandfathers may have served as well, but I'm not sure because they're gone now, along with anyone who might know their military histories.
My brother was 10 years older than me, so I was just 10 or so when he went to Viet Nam. I remember being very quiet as we ate dinner that night before taking him to the airport to go overseas. I was pretty sure he was never coming back.Thankfully he did, but not before losing 40 percent of the hearing in one of his ears from working day after day on loud B52 bomber engines.

The war also took quite an emotional toll on him, as it did for many others. My father and brother had matching reel-to-reel recorders, so we sent voice tapes back and forth from Los Angeles to Viet Nam. He told us when he got back that when mail call came and there wasn't a letter, card or recording from us, he would just stand there and cry. And as many soldiers did, he turned to alcohol to numb the terrible fear a 19-year-old -- or anyone -- would feel being so far from home in a place where bombs are falling all around you. It took him years to move on from using alcohol to blot out pain, but I'm happy to say he hasn't done that for a very long time.
My father also served overseas, but I have little memory of him talking about his experiences. Since he passed away when I was 14 (which was several eons ago), the few stories I've heard have been forgotten.
At any rate, I'm sure you're getting the picture that I have a soft spot for veterans. That's why I created this free patriotic clip art for Veterans Day. I hope you find it meaningful and useful. Remember, we might not agree with the reasons for war, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't honor those who fought.

This way "outta-the-way" web site is absolutely awesome! It is hard to believe anyone would visit this page and see a couple of these video's, especially a Veteran, and not have a comment. Whoever put this together I thank you very much. People like you all makes what Vietnam has done to my life just a degree better and "I" thank you.
