Nine years ago in 1999 I took a plunge in to internet marketing and social networking on eBay selling only tradable CCG (collectable card game) cards and signed original signed first edition books. I knew that if I was going to succeed that I needed to break in to the social network scene. This took a vital roll in my initial success and helped my sales increase dramatically!

As a result of my efforts I earned over $50,000 usd in my first partial year as an internet marketer doing only a few very basic social networking techniques that were available at that time ! ! !

As a newbie on the scene I knew that the only real hope for my success was social networking. At the time I was (unfortunately) an AOL member and I also used the very popular Yahoo! instant messanger service. I knew that there had to be a way to reach out to the millions of people that were using both of these services, so I did some research.

What I learned very quickly shocked me to say the least! There were thousands of people online JUST LIKE ME who had the same interests and hobbies that I did. They shared my zest for collecting, learning and best of all they were HUNGRY for new resources that they could use.

I searched the AOL and Yahoo! chat groups nightly looking for like minded people who might be looking for new ccg techniques or information about new signed first edition books. The social network scene is always buzzing with people who are reaching out looking for something. All I needed to do was reach out to some of them and show them what I had to offer.

As I learned more I found social networking groups full of people who were online 24 hours a day looking for ccg cards and signed first edition books. I wasn't the only one that was interested in character card games, nor was I the only avid reader / collector in those social networks wanting more information.

After watching marketing trends I quickly noticed that I wasn't the only one that had noticed how important social networking was. Seeing this trend the "big three" search engines decided to create "groups" that people could join free of charge to interact with each other.

I quickly researched which groups fit best with my initial two niche markets and joined as many of them as I could. I learned how to quickly navigate the sign up process to join each social network group and begin meeting new people.

From time to time I had to wait a little longer to be "accepted" in to each of the various groups and I noticed that some were definately more popular than others. Another thing I noticed was that many of the members from one social networking group to the next were often the same people. These were the people I found myself talking to and networking most as I slowly developed a reputation with them showing them that I not only had valuable knowledge, but I was also able to provide them with the products they were searching for.
