M & D' s

Scotland's largest theme is M&D's, which is situated in 20 acres of the pictureque Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwel. Motherwell is approxiamtely a 20 minute bus journey from Glasgow, if you get the bus fron stance 27, Buchanan Bus Station, Glasgow. There are 7 buses a day to and from M&D's.

M&D's boasts to have over 40 attractions and rides. They have six rollercoasters/thrill rides. They boast to have some of the very best white knuckle rollercoaster rides that any individual could look for. However, this theme park caters for all ages, it is fantastic for children. Family fun and kids rides are also here. they have some briliant rides for the younger members of the Family.

M & D's also has the 'Amazonia', which is totally unique for Scotland. This is the only theme park in Scotland to have a tropical rainforest full of exotic animals indoors. This attraction offers educational experiences and new fun for all the family. The Amazonia allows its vistors to learn and explore whilst giving us an insight into what life is like in the tropical rainforest. Visitors are also given the opportunity to take part in M & D's daily handling sessions of the animals, where they try to dispel some of the myths that have been created about the creatures.

The Amazonia is not the only indoor activity that you can experience whilst here, there is Cosmic Bowling; Diamond Lil's; Krazy Kongo; Game Zone and the Carousel.

There are numerous rides at this fantastic theme park, although please note that alot of them have not been mentioned here and some of the rides do have height limited applied.


Rollercoasters/Thrill Rides

Scotland's only inverted rollercoaster is called the 'Tsunami', as well as being one of the scariest, with corkscrew loops, twists and turns. If you like high speed rides this this is the ride for you, as it can break speeds of 65kmh.

The 'Tornado' rollercoaster has been redesigned and is back at M&D's. This ride is now even more scary than before with 360 degree loops that defies the laws of physics. It is one of M&D's biggest rollercoasters with over 1000 metres of track. If you feel brave enough for this ride remember to take a change of underwear as you will go at speeds in excess of 80kph.

M&D's has got the 'Express Rollercoaster' back after popular demand and it's round-the-world trip. This state-of-the-art rollercoaster ahs 500 metres of track and goes from 0-60 in 8 seconds. This ride is a real family favourite at M&D's.

Their ultimate thrill seeker/white knuckle Ride is the 'Bungee'. This ride is not for the faint hearted individual. once you are strapped in, prepare yourself to be catapulted into the sky at ludicurious speeds whilst spinning 360 degrees. Infact you go 50 metres in 1.2 seconds.


Kids Rides and Family Fun

Flying Jumbos allows any child to imagine that they are flying on their favourite elephant. At the centre of this beautiful hand-painted attractionis the mother to all the aby elephants. She stands at 30 metres high and once you sit in the baby elephant you can decide if you want to go higher or lower on this ride.

A big family-favourite-rollercoaster ride is the 'Big Apple'. The Big Apple Caterpillar eats its way through 300 metres of track whilst munching its way to a gigantic red apple. Along the way your child will experience 3 drops, lifts and numerous truns and twists.


Amazonia Creatures

The 'Amazonia' creatures are spiders; The Mexican Red Knee, which can be found in Central and North America. The Blue Martinique, which can be found in the Carribbean Island of Martinique. Goliath Bird Eating Tarantula, which can be found in South America.

Reptiles - The Veiled Chameleon, which can be found in Yemen, The Emerald Tree Boa, which can be found in South America deep in the Amazon basin and finally; The Specticled Caiman which can be found in South America. In addition to Reptiles and Spiders, they have monkeys, flying creatures, fish and Amphibians. M & D's also have various birds and butterflies, which are allowed to fly freely round their Amaziona housing.


Other Indoor Activities

The Cosmic Bowling is a first for scotland as it is 'Glow In The Dark' bowling with 16 lanes. In addition to 'Glow in the dark' bowling you can also play air hockey. Whilst there why not refuel for the day with a meal, snack and or a drink in their lovely 'Bowl 'n' Bite' restaurant.

Diamond Lil's is the place for cool dudes to play American Pool. If you decide this is the game for you, you need to be over 21 to experience the pressure of their American Pool Parlour whilst the pool sharks circle your table.

Krazy Congo - is the place indoors that you can let your children go crazy. It is a giant soft play area and is totally a supervised enviroment. It is also a great place for kid's parties. Krazy Congo's consists of a giant 10 metre astra slide, 4 compressed airball cannons' and air ball juggler and fountain, treehouses, rope bridges and much much more.

Game Zone is a huge amusements acrade, which has over 150 games for you to play


Eating And Drinking

Bizarre Bar and Restaurant - this is a great favourite. A mixture of live entertainment and karaoke; they have a free kids karaoke. This Bar and restuarant is a great place to relax whilst enjoying food from all over the world. There is a huge selection of beers, spirits and wines.

Downtown USA - The kids will just love this! It is a cool and casual environment set in a specialist '60s style diner, it even has authentic Coca-Cola, hamburgers and popcorn. It is finished ofrf with a Harley-

Davidson motorcycle.

Inside Out Bar - M & D's claim this could probably have the longest bar in Scotland. They have 6 LCD Screens, which shows all the sports events.

Guiseppe's Italian Coffee Shop -Not only do they sell traditional Italian coffee, they have a huge selection of ice creams; milkshakes; baguettes; toasties; salads; cakes and patisseries. You can enjoy all this whilst taking in the unrivalled views over the Strathclyde Country Loch.

Excellent work. I am originally from Wishaw in Lanarkshire, so I know Strathclyde Park very well, if not M&D's. Maybe I'll go and take a look the next time I'm "home."
