Sony stopped selling the old night vision technology but old cameras could be adapted with this 300.00 filter

Sony took the camera off the market when they realized it could do this and a new market of cameras and filters came out. Sony changed their cameras night vision technology so this didn't work.

Yes it's true. Technology has gotten this cool.

I know some people will be offended at the very concept of x-Ray glasses but all perverted concepts aside I want to focus on the concept that technology has made it possible to see through clothing, even through several layers of cloth!

Their are several types of X-Ray glasses on the market. Some are true X-Ray others are optical illusions. I want to talk about the range of types and how their technologies work. I find this technology fascinating for a lot of reasons. One type is used not just to see through clothing but to read secret messages painted on someone's back leg etc.. Seen through the clothing!

You will, if you've never heard any of these concepts before be stunned how this technology became known "Accidentally" by a Sony handicam with night vision!

Apparently the night vision camera when used during the day could see through certain types of fabric (synthetic). When it was discovered people started to wonder how it worked and it turns out it's the infrared beam that's fed out and reflected back to the camera.

What you're seeing in a night vision camera is inferred light reflected off of objects and fed back into the camera. Some synthetic clothing designed to "breathe" and allow the sun to come in (so you can get a "full" tan while wearing a bathing suit, a lot of bathing suits are like this) by design let light in or more related let UV rays in.

UV rays are a lot like Inferred rays in characteristics and this is what the camera sees (inferred). The clothing has enough tiny holes to let enough light in and bounce back out to the camera so you see the reflected inferred light, the clothes still opaque enough to hide the unmentionables to the naked eye but to the camera this is a different story.

When infrared light is let in it also bounces out and the camera picks it up. With the right filters (which have become more and more advanced) this light shows some pretty good definition, as other light is filtered out so it doesn't over contrast the inferred beams coming back in. The filter isolates the light the camera picks up so you get a clearer picture. The X-Ray pictures (which you can see in the links below) aren't HDTV quality but impressive enough to make these real x-Ray glasses!

The parts of the clothing that don't allow the inferred beam into the skin to bounce it back out (clothing is non reflective but the skin is highly reflective) absorb the light and so the picture is not perfect, much like a lower resolution screen is pixilated because of less pixels of definition.

This is the "black" filter that attaches to the front of the camera (sold seperately) and filters out ambient light letting in mostly inferred.

A site selling the sony cams ready to go describes the technology like this:

"The way it works is rather simple really. Many types of clothing allow light and infrared light to pass through the fabric. This light is reflected back through the clothing, off the skin, to our naked eyes. What we normally see is both the reflected normal light (off the clothing and the skin underneath) mixed with the Infrared light (off the skin). The lens filters the normal light out, leaving only the Infrared light and some other ambient light waves. The effect is , the clothing looks something like glass. "

You can buy the old Sony camera on eBay

You can even buy the x-Ray Filter on eBay (use with nightshot sony handicam)

Another X-Ray Glasses Claim (not sure if this is legit)

Their are many different claims to x-Ray that aren't proven and I'm not sure if they are just a bunch of hooey or what. The above camera is real and the technology sound, well light. *smiles*

You can explore those in more detail on the two links at the end of this hub, let's visit some other x-Ray glasses that claim to work.

They claim you can see heat by filtering the inferred, I don't know about the xRay deal but the way they change the way you see the world makes them worth the price.. Kind of like looking through the terminators lens :)

have you seen any new xray technologies? comment so I can add them here!

I don't know about these..

These are seriousely on ebay and they are making huge claims...

Jerrico-

Fascinating Hub and interesting information. Honestly, this is really frightening and not from the place of exposure, but many many other implications you know?

Well, at least now I know where the modest clothing industry is going to need to take their manufacturing.... to camera blocking fabrics to ensure modestly completely!

Yikes.... freaky! But, thanks for the eyes-open reporting...

Yea it is scary, but just think if you didn't know it existed and thought that guy staring at you with those big glasses (you can't tell theirs a camera in them) was just a strange guy..

This hub tells you so your aware of things like this. As for camera blocking clothing the camera works only on synthetic and thin clothing, I believe clothing not designed to let uv rays in is already camera blocking. also if you wear layers of clothing your safe too.

The camera capitalizes on certain fabrics not all clothing. The irony is the old clothing lines (i.e. cotton, and natural materials) are like superman's Lead..

I tend not to worry about the implications of this technology (by pervs) but more so on how cool the concept that technology has gotten this advanced that a simple camcorder with night vision can xray through synthetic clothing. I like the messages hidden below the clothes concept too..

A bit 007 but a neat way if your at a party and want to communicate with your partner (forget the hand signals, just write what you want to tell them on paper and slip it into your shirt pocket and tell them to put on the "heat" bans glasses (the last set in this hub).. they can read the heat from certain types of ink.I just discovered the old xray glasses had a second style other than chromadepth, that used a feather, while looking through the glasses pinhole you in light saw the feather which looked like bones and your hand was shifted by the light, this gave the illusion of xray vision, even though it was an optical illusion. then it was up to people believing the persons bs telling them they could also see through their clothes :)

Actually I do. I've actually seen this work. I took my friends nightshot camera and did some tests using pictures behind clothing. Alot of it has to do with reflectivity. When people go out and wear clothing that allows you to get a tan while wearing your bathing suit for example, the irony is they also wear sun block, which is highly reflective!

It works without the extra filter but not very well, with the filter that blocks the other types of light and allows in ir light so the definition is higher. The glasses vs the camera utilize an advanced filter that allows SOME ambient light for color. The XRay portion is in green the surrounding clothing etc.. comes out in color.

I haven't tested the glasses yet but I know they work as they utilize the same exact principals as the camera, as described on their site.

As for the second pair of glasses this is based on heat, they block out the light that doesnt carry heat signitures (theirs a certain spectrum that you can see in heat and thus his glasses just block out the others. Ironically the heat spectrum is close to the ir/UV light and so you can actually see SOME but not much, in reality its a long shot to see xray in these glasses (the second kind) but the way it changes your world around you in real time is facinating..

can make a cloudy day seem like a brilliant sunny day so well worth the purchase in my opinion.

Nice looking glasses too. in the right light thin clothing is seen through.

To me it looks as if this dress was already see through type material to begin with. I have a skirt like that, not that I wear purposely, but I did not realize until afterwards that is sort of see through. So the camera just renders what was probably already seen in direct sun light.
