Dairyland Farmworld

Updated on June 18, 2013

Dairyland Farmworld is a top favourite with families, whatever the weather. As an all-weather attraction, Dairyland Farmworld is ideal for those days when the weather's not great for the beaches - it's also a couple of miles outside Newquay so perfect from staying out of the traffic-clogged town roads as everybody heads into town. With plenty of free car parking, it's a great, stress-free way to spend the entire day.

There's probably been a working farm on the site since before 1340, when the history of the farm can be plotted from. The current farm has been farmed by the same family since 1924.

One of the great innovations with Dairyland Farmworld though is that once you buy your tickets they're valid for a full seven days, so you can break off at any time and re-visit as many times as you like while you're on holiday. If you're in the area more often than 1-2 times a year you can even buy a yearly pass.

And what kid, big and small alike, doesn't like to pet animals at a farm? There's a Pat a Pet section just for this, with all kinds of cute, small and furry pets.

Educational

Tractor House and Farming Museum

For adults, there's a fabulous farming museum, including an 18th century pony-driven cider press, a wooden horse-driven milling machine, some copper laundry equipment and an old cloam oven.

This houses a small collection of old tractors, tractor parts and engines.

So there's certainly going to be something for everybody down at the farm!

Environment & Alternative Energy

Wander through the recycling centre, seeing how the amount of waste being buried can be reduced. A lot of school visits are organised to the centre, which shows the different groups of materials that recycling from your home is sorted into.

There's lots of leaflets and information boards to read about recycling.

Clarabelle's Kitchen

There's a fabulous variety of foods to be eaten, or taken away.  Whether you want a hot lunch, a quick hot drink, or a full picnic, it's all in the Kitchen area.

Choose from hot/cold food, locally-prepared picnics and Cornish cream teas.

There's also a small gift shop to look around, selling home-made ice-cream, dairy produce, clotted cream and gift sets.

You'll also find things for the kids, such as a selection of soft toys, key rings and even mini diggers.

Pat a Pet at 11am, 2pm and 3.30pm.

Daily Events

Not everything's available all of the time, so make sure you check out what you're interested in seeing, to make sure you don't miss it when you visit.  Mind you, with your ticket being valid for a whole week you can always pop back the next day if you did!

As Dairyland Farmworld is a farm and most of the attractions are animals, they need to keep to some routine for things like when they get up, get fed and go to bed.  Pat a Pet is at 11am, 2pm and 3.30pm.

There's also bottle feeding, milking the cows

Hayrides and Pony Rides will cost you an extra fee and are on at set times of the day.  Hayrides just once a day and pony rides three times a day.

So there's something different going on most of the time - well worth getting good use out of your ticket and perhaps visiting at different times of the day!

Nature Trail

There's a great nature trail, leading down to the pond where you can feed the swans, ducks and fish.  It's included in the price you paid - but if you want to pay a little extra then take the Hayride down.

There are free, accompanying, explorer sheets for the kids to mark off what they can find and see along the route.  There are different explorer sheets for kids of every age up to age 11.  There are two explorer sheets for each age group, so double the fun on the farm!

There's lots of wildlife around the farm and the lakes - and you might even spot a wild heron or wild mallard down by the lake, these are both frequent visitors.

Otters!  Yes, if you're lucky you'll also spot an otter.  They travel along the river, looking for fish.  You're more likely to see evidence that an otter has been there, than catch one actually in the act of fishing/eating, but you never know your luck!

If the weather's changeable, there are a couple of shelters along the route.

Watch the Cows Being Milked in the Milking Parlour

Cows have to be milked daily, as part of a routine. As Dairyland Farmworld is a working farm, 120 cows are milked to a schedule and you can watch them a couple of times a day.

Watch as the cows come into the milking parlour and take their place on a rotating table. The cows are kept happy while they're being milked, by being fed.

You'll see the cowman wash the teats of the cows and attach the milking suction pumps, then you'll see the milk as it travels through the tubes and into huge glass jars.

Milking has to happen twice a day every day - even when Dairyland Farmworld is shut to visitors the cows still need milking.

The Bull Pen

This is something you do have to pay a little extra for, it's an adventure zone where you can climb, jump, run and have fun. There's a drop slide, a tumble tower, climbing nets, astra slides, a fireman's pole and ball pools, all in a 12,000 square foot indoor space.

Ideal for letting the kids let off steam.

... And There's More

These are just some of the things you can find to see or do at Dairyland Farmworld.

There are lots of other fun things to do, including trampolines, visiting the animal ark, an assault course, mini tractors and more animals than you can imagine.

Definitely worth a visit, rain or shine - it's an all-weather visitor attraction - and don't forget, your ticket's good for seven whole days!

Re-Use Your Ticket!

Make sure you get good use out of your ticket.  Don't just plan to visit once, plan to visit as often as you can.  This is a brilliant budget-busting offer because it's just there waiting to be used whenever the weather's not quite right for other plans, or because last time you visited you just missed something you were keen to see/do, or because it's just a great place to re-visit!

Remember, buy your ticket and it's good for a full seven days!

Birthday Party Venue for Kids Parties

If you're looking for a birthday party that's just a bit different to the rest, then why not host your child's next birthday at Dairyland Farmworld?

The Bullpark can be booked for private events, there are four separate private rooms just for your party.

Parties are for 3 hours at a time, 10.30-1.30 or 2.00-5.00. Prices are just £7.50 per child and this includes food. There's a minimum booking of 10 children required, but one free adult's place for every party child.

Dairyland Farmworld will even arrange party bags for just £1.50.

And if that wasn't enough, you can even download free birthday invites to download from their website and print out.

Overall, it's a great way to keep the kids amused, fed and happy at a great, affordable price.
