Pet Rats
Fancy rats can will eat just about anything you can. But, that doesn't necessarily mean that they should. You should monitor what foods you feed your pet rat(s), as some are better than others.
Even with the below recipes, you will need to watch your rat(s). You should never let these recipes or any other treat become more than 10% of a rat's diet. Treats and any foods that are not a part of the staple diet, should never be fed in excess, as too much can cause obesity, as well as, other health concerns.
You should be aware of any allergies that you rat(s) may have, so that you know what treats your pet(s) can have, safely.

I'm sorry, but I freaked out when I first read the title. Then, my brain finally kicked in and I got it. These recipes sound good enough for humans, too.
are rats easy to managed as a pet? can you buy commercial food for rats? just curious....
thanks MM
Angela- Oops.. I'd never think of or look for those kind of rat recipes. Ha. You can eat them. They human friendly. ;-)
MM- rats are very easy to take care of. You can definately buy commercial foods. I recommend Mazuri or Harlan Teklad rat blocks. Avoid seeded mixes, as they tend to be high in fat, plus most rats ignore the good stuff in them, picking out their favorites.
I'm working on a caring for pet rat hub, so look out for it.
i made the recipe but forgot to tell you my rats loved it! -=]
I read your hubs on rat diets, treat and recipies before coming here.I always thought rats were a bit of nuisance. But now I realise how much love and care they need when they can be pets. You sure are an animal lover.Your information about dogs are amazing too.
Jackilyn- which recipe did you try? Did you check out the other treat recipes?
Abhinaya- rats can be great pets. Most people just don't want to give them a try. And, yes, I am a huge animal lover. Thank you.
It is interesting.Rats are not pets in India.
I have to admit, I never thought of having a rat for a pet. There are lots of different sorts of rats I guess? It was the title that hooked me though LOL I was hoping it wasn't an actual rat recipe, hehe - And I wasn't disppointed. I will ruminate on the benefits of doing a rat recipe of my own.
Mark- There are different colors and patterns of pet rats, but only one type of fancy rat... You can find blue, black, brown, white, and other shades of pet rats. Hooded, masked, and hairless rats, as well as other patterns and coats.
I have only ever come across two types of rat (except the human kind) City rats and country rats. One good, one bad. I never even heard of fancy rats. What makes them fancy?
I love this.
I have 9 rat kids of my own, and they love new things, so I am definately going to bookmark this page.
I have 2 genuine hairless, 2 fancy (one has 4 babies) and 1 dumbo rat.
One of my fancies are sick though, so I am glad I came across this.
Thanks!
I'm sorry to hear that one of your ratties is sick. I hope it gets better. I currently have 3 fancies, but I'd love a hairless and a blue.
