Why Did My Pet Die?

The pet food recalls of 2007 have come and gone cats and dogs continue to become ill and die due to the pet food ingredients.

Pet food producers are using ingredients unfit for human consumption which are killing our pets. The ingredients in pet food must be changed!

The use of Corn, Wheat, and Soy are causing such awful conditions in pets including:

  • Dry and itchy skin
  • Fever
  • Ear aches
  • Ear infections
  • Hot Spots on the skin
  • Bad breath
  • Dental disease
  • Hair loss
  • Sore feet
  • Abnormal nail growth
  • Bloat
  • Weight gain
  • Tumors
  • Moles and warts
  • Seizures
  • Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney conditions
  • Liver conditions
  • Early pet death

These companies need to be held accountable for the injuries to our pets and our best friends early deaths! - Susan Peters

This page is dedicated to the memory of those loved ones that have passed away and to those of us left behind who miss them.

My dog died last night. His was perfectly fine 3 days ago. He started throwing up on Wednesday, by Wednesday night he could hardly hold his head up, so I took him to the emergency vet that night. They said he had some type of anemia (AMHA). He had to have a blood transfusion Thursday, and then on Friday night he passed away. He would have been 6 next week. I have two other dogs in the house and they appear to be ok. I sure hope they were right on their diagnosis. I feed him Dry Eukanuba Small Bites.

I just lost a very sweet old pomeranian. I had switched to canned food a few months ago because he had a hard time chewing dry food. Although he was old and frail, he did not seem acutley sick. Until the morning I found him standing, unable to move and letting at a pitiful cry. He was confused, could not eat or drink, and within hours, it was obvious he was dying. The symptoms pointed to renal failure which I thought was due to age. Now in hind site, I will never know. After 2 days of suffering, we decided to put him down.

This was just weeks before the recall. It upsets me to know that I may have inadvertently killed my dog.

Nikko, I am sooo sorry. I just didn't know.

In Loving Memory Midget Feb 2000- March 2007

He was just a tiny ball of fur whe I found him in the back of a pick up truck. I was told," he'll be a pretty small dog". He was a beautiful rotwieler and chow mix. So much fur you couldn't see a face, and a little nub for a tail. He had a few medical conditions as he grew up, including a hole through his skin into his stomach, yet he survived. I never would of thought his dinner would be the reason he is gone. We thought we were safe when the recall came out, his food was not included. Or so we thought. We also have a cat who is clinging to life as I type, due to a NON RECALLED dry cat food. Our vet is doing their best to help him. She specified, the only safe foods for your animal is Purina and Beneful dry foods. But that could change. I share in all your pain. To the momory of all our lost friends.

My 8 yr old mini daschund Buster started getting sick on Thursday March 15 th, on Saturday morning when I got home from work he was listless and couldn't stand , I took him right into the vet and he passed away at 1:34 am Sunday of kidney failure. I was feeding him the tainted dog food . It was a $150 dollars to have him sent to the lab to be autopsied. The results returned to our vet on Friday said he had crystals in his kidneys that form from the ingestion of poison and they concluded that his death was due to the tainted food.

Morty: My Yorkie-Died March 25, 2007. Kidney failure.

Fairland, Oklahoma

Bonni C.  says:

My sweet little yorkie died on Sunday night, March 25, 2007 at home in her bed from renal failure and although she was an older dog with some health problems, she had been doing well for the past few years and my vet was puzzled about how she just got so sick and went into renal failure so quickly, losing one quarter of her body weight (she was only 4.5 lbs before she was sick) and died within three days.  She was only fed prescription dog food I purchased from the vet, but I would put the IAMS Savory Sauce over it.  She was fed the sauce up until the week before she died, and then I threw it out after hearing about the recall and worried about whether or not the sauces might be tainted as well.  Although her vet can't be sure if her death can be attributed to her age or her past health history, he did question me as to whether or not she had been fed the tainted food and now I am questioning as well whether or not the gravy had something to do with my beloved baby's death. I am truly heartbroken by her passing and now even more so now to think that she could still be alive had it not been for what I had been feeding her, since I worked so hard to provide her with only what was best for her because she had many special dietary needs and issues. I thought the gravy would just enhance the special foods she needed to eat and help supplement the taste. This is beyond comprehension for me. I am becoming more and more upset as I learn more from others losses and experiences. I watched as my baby took her last breath and to think that her death might have been prevented is something that is truly making me sick to my stomach.

Our beautiful pit bull puppy, Trouble, not even 6 months old, just diagnosed with renal failure. Too sick for treatment will be put down today. I am so angry that nothing is being done. He only had pedigree dry dog food...not on the recall list...however a puppy is not supposed to die suddenly of renal failure. Can we trust any dog food? Devastated in Los Angeles.

my 3 dogs have been eating iams dry food for some time, until our local store ran out. I had to change to purina senior and purina puppy, and after just 2 days of feeding, all 3 dogs are drinking water and urinating like crazy. my puppy threw up tonight without even digesting his food, and my 6 year old lab has had diarrea and an unquenchable thirst. my golden, 13, has no energy to even go outside and has started urinating in the house this evening. i'll be going to the vet in the a.m. does any of this sound familiar to any of you?could this be the food poisoning everyone is talking about?

Yes wondering in Michigan. Those are the EXACT symptoms my Yorkie had before he had to be put to sleep. He was fine and healthy then 4 days before he had to be put to sleep he started drinking huge amounts of water and urinating excessivly. Then the vomiting started and he could hardly hold his head up. It was kidney and pancreas failure. Please get your pets to the vet ASAP if not sooner! Keep everything you can, food containers and vet receipts. These companies refuse to test dry foods but they better start. We all need to demand they do it now!

We lost our little Qtip Feb. 23, 2007. She was a tiny toy poodle. She had the signs and syptoms of the food related recall. The only thing she ate was the Cesar Cuisines, little Iams bisquits and Pupperoni treats. She started vomiting on a Tuesday, we had taken her to Apple Lane to her Vet on Wednesday, she told us it was her ears. She kept going down hill after that visit. Was very lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink. I kept calling the vet and she just kept telling us to call the next day. We took her to a 24 hours emergency vet clinic on Friday night after she had a seizure, she died 45 minutes later. That vet said her ears were ok. Our Vet. hasn't even returned our calls. Something got to her. Something we will never know. The recall came out after she died. This is so heart breaking.

We had our 15 year old put to sleep on 3/5 after several months of severe diareaha. We knew she was old and thought that her body was just failing. She drank lots of water and had several of what appeared to be minor strokes. All attributed to age. We have been feeding all three of our dogs Nutro Lamb & Rice bites and gravy. Now our 10 year old has severe liver damage. Liver enzymes at over 1200 compared to healthy levels of approx 200 or less. We will have more tests today, but my vet claims that only kidneys are involved with the contaminated food. I disagree, as she is seemingly improving after removing her from the food the day we heard about the recall. Still she has severe damage and we don't know how this will effect her future. Our 2 year old baby seems to be OK, blood test look good, but she refused to eat for several days and that may have saved her life. God I hope so, I just can't think of loosing another one of my kids. ~ Very sad, basically numb! ~ Cheri

Bandit and Delaney, our sweet little 11 year old shelties had to be put to sleep January 28, and 29 after suffering from vomiting and severe renal failure. They each spent the weekend in the vet ER getting all sorts of tests and treatments ($1500.00 worth). Nothing worked- we still lost them both. We had recently changed dog foods to a dry purina brand dog food that is not on the recall list- yet. We will be missing our wonderful dogs for a long time to come. So sorry for all of you who have lost your precious pets too. This stinks.

Dog-Jenna Nicole Wicks

Died-3/4/2007 2:30a.m. 4yrs. old

Helena, Alabama

Jenna was a very happy healthy dog. She became very sick very suddenly. When we arrived home from work the Friday before she passed we noticed she was not herself. She always greeted us at the door for some loving attention and her treat when we returned home. She knew she would receive a treat for being a good girl while we were out. This particular afternoon she didn't greet us at the door and she would not eat her treat. After an hour I knew something was wrong. She was not eating, vomiting, panting, druelling, consuming alot of water, and barely had the energy to make it up the stairs. We took her to the vet immediately. After blood samples, x-rays, and shots the results came back. The first thing the vet said was she thought Jenna might have gotten into rat poison. We immediately told her that was impossible. We did not have any type of poison in our home or garage let alone rat poison. Jenna was not a pet she was a member of our family. My baby. She was totally an inside dog. There was no way she could have gotten into poison. Her lab results revieled that she was dehydrated, anemic, her iron level was at 15% @ 10% she would require a blood transfusion, and her liver was enlarged. She had regular check up's which always showed she was healthy. The vet sent her home with $300.00 worth of medication and told us if she didn't begin to improve to bring her back and they would do a biopsy. Saturday morning she was still not eating, she was throwing up, and would not move from where she was laying, I had to lift the water bowl up to her so she could drink, which she was doing alot of. Saturday night she climbed up in her favorite chair for the night. At about 2:30 sunday morning I heard her gasp. My husband and I ran into the living room and knew whe was dying. We were by her side when she took her last breath. She died within 48 hours of her symptoms appearing, in her favorite chair with her family around her.

Jenna was fed Iams Weight Control dry dog food along with the Iams gravy at times, as well as Ol Roy bisquit treats.

My family greives along with all of the other pet owners who have lost a member of their family.

Hi Rebecca

I feel your pain as we recently lost Rosie which I consider a part of our family. Here is the story that I posted on the other board below. My suspicions were confirmed last night when they recalled Alpo prime cuts which she was eating. The problem food was made in mid February and my Rosie died February 26, 2007. I purchased the six packs from Walmarts. I knew this was the problem and contacted my regional FDA and they assured me last week it would be tested. Purina knew, why did they wait? This has me so upset.

We lost our beloved dog Rosie. She would have turned four in a few weeks. She died on February 26, 2007. She had the same symptoms as the other deaths. She was eating Alpo Prime Cuts and Pedigree Chicken & rice. Even though these are not on the recall list, I honestly believe this is what killed her.

I did notice for the last week her appetite was not what it was. She did eat, but many times her dog food was barely touched. Well last Saturday, I noticed she appeared depressed and was not herself. She did eat that day, but as I said I should have known something was not right.

Well, Sunday morning the kids informed me that Rosie had vomited about five times. She did have heavy drooling all day and was drinking lots of water but was turned off by food.

That afternoon she stilled appeared very down and layed around alot. She did walk but very slowly. When she got up, I noticed she left a round blood stain on the cement. When I lifted her tail she had a slight bloody discharge from her rectum. I also noticed her tongue was gray. She had a beautiful deep pink tongue before.

I knew she was sick but had planned to get her into a vet asap Monday morning. Later Sunday afternoon she got up from her blanket and went to the grass to defecate or urinate. She strained for quite sometime and went layed back down. I did not see anything that came out, but it was getting dark. I did notice around 11:00 pm Sunday night her stomach looked slightly swollen.

Unfortunately she passed during the early hours of Monday morning while we were sleeping. I checked the spot where she tried to defecate or urinate but only saw very few drops of bloody water. This is the only thing that came out. I did notice another spot on her blanket that was a bloody rectum discharge.

I am so upset and miss her dearly. I never thought she was going to die so quick. It has been driving me crazy why my little Rosie died. Now I might have an answer. I thought she may have gotten ahold of a poisoned mouse, never thought her food was poisoning her. This is unbelievable. Cheryl/Lousiana

I am disgusted with Purina for not coming forward with the recall on the Alpo. My dogs have been sick, they eat Purina dry with Alpo wet mixed in. My cats love to eat the gravy of the Alpo, and i am worried about them now also. My Sophie , a schipperke mix has been very sick, please pray for her and all my other dogs that may have been poisoned by Purina.

And all the other pets who , because we love them, gave them, what we believed to be safe and heathy food. I am making all my own dog/cat food until this is over.

My daughters 3 1/2 year old Pom (Rowdy) has over the last week started showing some symptoms. He has had runny stools and excessive thirst as well as heavy panting. He has slept more than what we feel is normal for a dog his age and we are very concerned. When we called the vet we were told that his food (Purina Dog Chow) is not on the list but I am not convinced that it shouldn't be. At what point do the pet food comapnies become liable for the pain they are causing to us and to our families?

My mini dashaund died 03/16/07 from eating the tainted food. I had that dog for 12 years and she was in perfect health until I gave her Mighty Dog in the foil pouch. She was the sunshine in my heart, and now she's gone due to someone's greed in the pet food industry. I will never get over losing her when it was so senseless. My heart goes out to everyone that has lost a beloved pet from this horrible situation. I wish with heart felt hope that the pets ill from it, but still alive recover and thrive. None of our innocent pets should have been forced to suffer in such manner as this. There is no excuse for it. Class action lawsuits may or may not accomplish anything, but always remember the person or persons responsible for this will have to meet their maker some day.

My dog Sam was a mini dacshund mix that was 10 years old. He passed away on 3-15-2007 at home. He was being treated for lethargy, weight loss, vomiting, diarhea, liver and kidney abnormalities. He was healthy dog until about a month before he died and slowley he got sicker and no one knew why. He was at the vet at least onc or twice a week. I lost my best friend and I just don't know why. Maybe it didn't have anything ti do with the food but I will never know. He was eating 3 of the recalled foods. I will miss him everyday for the rest of my life. It is a disgrace that these pet food co. have absoluteley no monitoring or state inspections. They get rich and don't care what happens to pets. If they did they would have much better quality control and none of this contaminated food would have ever hit the shelves. My prayers go out to all of the other pet owners who have lost a friend. God be with all of the animals who have paid price of someones mistakes. You will all be remembered and always be in our hearts. RIP Sammy, we love you. 8-23-1996 to 3-15-2007.

I am so sorry for all of the losses that all of you have sustained. I myself have a 6 moth old Shih Tzu who had been eating the Nutro Natural Choice pouches, and the dry food. As soon as I heard of the recall I brought him to the vet to have them run bloodwork (CBC and Chemistry) as a precaution, I recommend anyone who has been feeding their pet any food that has been recalled to have bloodwork drawn as a precaution, so that kidney failure may be caught early. Thankfully his bloodwork came back normal. I have since the first recall, stopped feeding him any pet food what so ever. I have been cooking his food. I STRONGLY encourage all of you to do the same, at least you know what your pet is eating.

My heat goes out to all of you.

Our dog Nemo died today after being very sick at the animal hospital for about a week. He suffered from the same symptoms. We fed him Alpo Prime Cuts believing Purina would be a safe brand without knowing the harm we were causing him. We have tried to contact the company. After leaving many e-mails and trying to contact them by phone for several days, no luck. Our children are taking the loss very hard and we have few answers. We explain that he is now in "dog heaven." Our pet, our friend, our companion, we are sorry and we will miss you.

This has been devastating and we miss him very much . I hate to think of the struggling he had to do to stay alive on the way there my boys kept telling him to hang on..and he did his best he passed away as we were stuck at a light in traffic down the st. from the hosp. we fed Sheldon Alpo prme cuts...and Stop and Shop companion dry...It kills me to know by feeding my dog I poisoned him to death this is an outrage. and I would suggest ..No one feed their dog any kind of dog food until this is resolved .We thought we were safe and sure enough we were'nt ..all I know is our family member is no longer with us because of the poison in these dog foods..above and my boys are saddened and confused that just days ago their best buddy was playing in the snow with them and now he isn't here when they come home any more waiting for them...It's been hard we the FDA needs to get to the bottom of it...DO NOT BUY DOG FOOD UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED PLS. !!!!

A little over a month ago I on February 7th, 07 my big German Shepherd died in my arms. I don't know if it was due to the pet food recall, because my family and I had fed him Alpo cuts and gravy canned food, which is now on the list. He passed away, showing all the symptoms of the recall and we had no time to bring him to the vet. Within minutes poor Rex was gone, and it was truly hard watching the way he passed. They're are companions, our best friends. and we trust the pet food companies to keep the foods safe. Its just so hard to think of what happened to all these animals, the pets of the people that loved them. And its hard even for the ones that had survived, due to some may have to be on medication for the rest of there lives.

I, too. lost my 11 year old Sheltie last month and learned of the pet food recall the very next day and immediately contacted my vet with questions. He had all of the same symptoms (although was healthy for his age up until a week before I had to put him down)but I was feeding him Pedigree (canned) and also dry food, neither of which were on the first list to come out but as that continues to grow daily I'll wonder until the day I die whether it was the food I was feeding him that caused his death. He was my buddy, my best friend, and all that I had to live for and I grieve for him every single day. My heart goes out to all pet owners who are trying to cope with this. God bless.

Addie, my beloved little silky terrier was a very healthy and vibrant girl until 4-5 hours before she passed away Jan 30 2007. She was 14 years young. She usually ate table food; fruits, vegetables lots of rice, chicken and beef casseroles made especially for her. Due to extreme circumstances of us staying and helping out at my brothers home, he has lung cancer, my little girl was being compromised with Cesars select dinners, Beneful dry food and Pedigree little champion food. I came home from a visit at hospital; Addie ran downstairs from 2nd floor and back up w/ lots of energy. 3 hrs later she cried, fell while walking, then died in my arms at 5am. The same morning, I had my precious baby cremated, not having any idea why she died. Now I know. She meant the world to me. Money cannot compensate for Addie being gone. She went shopping with me in her stroller, we often went out for dinner sharing a chicken dinner or a double cheeseburger. I loved her so much.

MY dog - G G. All I fed her recently was pedigree, mainly dry dog food. She started drinking more and more, occasionally vomiting it, so I helped her drink more slowly. Then over the last little while she stared peeing in the house. Then she died suddenly, in my arms. Appears to have been a stroke. A medical intuitive who helped save my life from chemical poisoning looked at her pictures afterwards and said it was the food. And that was just a few days BEFORE the recall became public.

One word of hope to everyone if you meditate/pray, or whatever is your spiritual practice, you CAN be with your beloved pet, they want to be with you. Just be still & listen and trust what comes t you. It's just a door, not the end, if you ask they will even come back to you through another cat or dog. Ask and ye shall receive!

It's time we realised 67% of all cancers and so forth come from the environemnt is you include food - acording to the US National Cancer Institute, publication "the environment & cancer what you need to know and what you can do". What a service our ptes are doimg for us, they are givng their lives to wake us all up to the chemicals...

My best friend Chester a 8 yr old Australian Shepherd started having tonic clonic seizures Thursday night. He was very active and healthy even though he had contracted diabetes. Due to this we put him on prescription Eukanuba optimum weight control. After coming home from a phenobarbital infusion to break the seizure cycle, we fed him a bowl of food and he started whimpering exhibiting extremely high anxiety. If you notice you pet is even slightly more sluggish than normal...as Chester seemed to be. Don't wait! The symtoms seemed minor until the seizures started and they were deadly.

In memory of a truely exceptional friend.

Goodbye Chester you were the best boy.

My beloved 9yr old healthy 140lbs Rottweiller “Hercules” died on March 13/07. He was on the dry Iams weight management. I came home on February 20/07 and found him paralyzed and lethargic in my bed. He had stopped eating his kibble apx 1 week prior. However, he would eat human food. His belly was rock hard and he seemed to be in a lot of discomfort. I rushed him to the vet -who had no clue what was wrong with him. The vet gave him a shot of steroids, did some blood tests (which later showed nothing) and gave me a supply of steroid pills which gave him the strength to walk with assistance for about a week. I told the vet that I had thought he had a bad batch of food and I actually returned the dry food for a refund on March 3/07 after showing the manager my vet bill. Herc would pace all night long and would refuse to lie down-when I would tell him to lie down he would yelp in pain. My boy hung on to dear life until March 14/07 where he collapsed on my back step…dead. He tried but didn’t even make it inside. He died alone on the cold hard step at my back door after I tried calling him inside 5 min earlier (he just stared at me so I thought he wanted more time outside). He tried his best that night to be the obedient & loyal animal he was. His belly was 2X the regular size and still rock hard. He had suffered extreme thirst & urination but no vomiting or diarrhea (however he was burping and gagging quite a bit)He would not even touch human food for 3 days before he died. I am so guilt ridden with the fact that my poor dog was suffering and didn’t have the words to tell me. According to my vet Herc still had many years to go & his illness was not age related. PEOPLE DO NOT FEED YOUR ANIMALS ANY DRY OR WET IAMS FOOD PRODUCTS!!!!!! Also I contacted Iams to inform them that it was the dry food that killed my dog and they said to fax my vet bill to them for an immediate reimbursement. My lawyer has advised against this. Somebody is going to pay. My young children have been so traumatized that they are sleeping with me almost every night & keep having nightmares from seeing their beloved family member suffer & drop dead before their eyes-while I cried hysterically that night trying to revive him. They wont even go downstairs at night alone because they’re “scared without Herc”. BTW I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. jen@goddessfilmproductions.com

AFTER BEING OUR LOYAL COMPANION FOR 7RS, OUR "SYDNEY" PASSED AWAY. WE WERE FEEDING HER BENEFUL WEIGHT MANAGEMENT DRY DOG FOOD AND PEDIGREE LEAN CANNED DOG FOOD. SHE STARTED WITH FREQUENT THIRST AND URINATION. SHE WAS EVEN URINATING IN HER BED. SHE HAD NO APPETITE AND WOULDN'T EVEN EAT ANY OF HER SNACKS. WE TOOK HER TO THE VET WHO SAID SHE HAD A KIDNEY INFECTION AND GAVE HER MEDICATION. AFTER ONE WEEK SHE WAS NO BETTER. THEN HER GUMS TURNED WHITE AND SHE STARTED VOMITING. SHE WAS ALSO HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING. WE TOOK HER BACK TO THE VET WHERE THEY DID ONE TEST AFTER ANOTHER TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER. SHE DIED THE NEXT DAY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SHE DIED FROM. THIS WAS BACK IN JANUARY OF 2007. BECAUSE OF ALL THESE SYMPTOMS, WE BELIEVE IT WAS FROM THE DOG FOOD. WE MISS HER AND LOVED HER SO MUCH. SHE WAS SUCH A GOOD DOG AND LOYAL COMPANION.

Long before there was a recall, I had a desire to inmprove my dog's health. I have 2 black labs. I was feeding them Iams and later Nutro -Natures Choice, which i thought was better. I do not know how reliable the food is but I did not trust it.

I chose to feed them from a menu of items which include:boiled rice, kidney beans (actually most any legume will do), whey protein powder, raw rgg, raw chicken (thighs are cheap), any freezer burnt meat which i will not eat, friuit and whatever reliable edibles I can scrounge up (use your imagination). They have been on this plan for about a year. They are healthy, fit and very happy at meal time.

For treats, I use cheap cookies. I give them sparingly. I also buy hot dogs ($1.00/pkg.) After slicing them into quarters, I have treats for a week or more.

Doesnt look like anything's safe so if we all cook our own food for them we will get them through this and just think what those horrible manufacturers will deal with then, no one buying their poisoned food. This is all so horrible that we all have to do something and force them to make real food for our pets. I have 10 dogs to cook for 2 are my daughters and 2 are my sons, I have 5 cats if I can do it so can you. I use wheat germ, brewers yeast 1 part chicken,or meat or ground turkey(more meats for the cats) to 2 parts br.rice,or oatmeal, potatoes, fish oil and cottage cheeze, please dont let any more pets get sick. I just recently built a website where those who has suffered horrible losses or experiences with there pets due to the recent pet food recall are posting their stories. It is a great way for people to vent their problems, tell their stories and even post pictures of their pets. The food companies are NOT taking any responsibilty for this horrific nightmare we are all going through and maybe this website can make a difference. They forget, pets are a part of are family too. We need to hold them accountable.

My 3 year old Golden Retriever, Cooper, died on Tuesday, March 27 of severe liver failure. He was eating a dry dog food but then stopped eating and drinking at the beginning of March. The vet put him on a soft food that can only be purchased at a vet's office on March 7th and he went down hill from there. On Tuesday, March 27th, at 7:30 a.m., we found Cooper lying on the kitchen floor, convulsing and foaming at the mouth. By 8:30 a.m., our precious, sweet boy was euthanized. We are completely devastated, shocked and angry that this could happen. We miss our Cooper so much. Our house is now empty and boring without silly pooch. We thought we were feeding him a good quality food. We wanted only the best for our beloved friend. Cooper is dead, and we want answers!!

ABBY BORN 12-2003 DECEASED 4-07-2007

Abby was an extremely hyper dog and thursday night had become ill. She had a seizure and was rushed to the er were i was told she had an arrythmia (missing a beat in her heart) She never had a problem before extremely healhty but yet all of a sudden was ill she hadn't eaten for a couple days. Testing was done to find out she had a heart problem and fluid in her lungs. She was in the second stages of heart disease and was only going to live 6mths if that with medication. She was put to sleep on April 7th 2007 3 days before my daughters birthday. The fluid had become worse in her lungs and i felt she was not going to make it even with the medication due to her not eating. She become lethargic, very thirsty and refused to eat everything given to her including many different types of people food she loved. I feel the dog food has something to do with this seeing my husbands Aunts dog is now very ill with similar symptoms but is being told her dog has cancer. Could the food be causing more problems than what they think? $300 later i lost my best friend in the world.

He was hospitalized for an entire week and the medicines were making him sicker. The prognosis was that he was going to die and they couldnt figure out the reason for the Renal failure. My mother instinct told me to feed him with home food, so I began giving him home cook food. Browney is still hanging on and very active, his Vet is amaze that dispite his Kindney values been abnormal and too high he still alive. I atribute it to the fact that I stop giving him the posioned dog food, and once this recall began I knew that Mom's are alwsy right.

Hi my prayers with those that lost their loved ones please post it is urgent to all others it has come to my attention and I have made corrective moves hopefully the proper officials will act on this as the dog food companies know but will not act I notified the FDA that the recall numbers are being listed incorrectly confusing consumers thus store reps thus they don't PULL the bad batch of food products!! Purina and Pedigree both imprint the numbers differently not corresponding to what one would see on the Internet these mistakes are UNACCEPTABLE the FDA on record now knows as of today but as I called a recorded line and was rolled into a voicemail system? so much for tax payers money being well spent eh? they were left with a voice message in their Bay area office telling them in general terms these erronous errors hopefully they have the intelligence and manpower to get the news out to the stores on where to look in order to verify the bad batch to PULL off of the shelves.

Harley - 5yr old Boston Terrier - Pedigree dry Puppy and Adult. Harley has never eaten any other food. Three weeks ago, he statred vomiting, drinking more, slobbering more and just didn't have the energy my dog has. Then very runny bowel movements. A friend who raises dogs told me to feed him soupy minute rice, it's very high in iron and folic acid, it's the white stuff in the water after cooking the rice that binds the bowels. He was not moving much at all at this point. I had checked the food recall list weekly and Pedigree was not on there and even called the Pedigree Co., they assured me his food was not contaminated. After a day of the rice and Pedialyte (to keep him hydrated) he was better. I kept giving it to him another day, great improvement. So I put him back on his food and he started vomiting and very runny bowels. I just thought I had not given him enough of the rice, put him back on the rice for a week. That's probably all that saved him, he got sick again when I put him back on the food. After reading everyones comments I am sure it's the food. I tryed another food Purina Puppy Chow Dry and I read about it on this site also. I'll be cooking for Harley from now on. Dog Food Companies greed isn't going to be the death of my dog. I encourage all of you to NOT buy dog food of any kind, cook for your pets. It's absurd that this many dogs and cats have died and there are bags of tainted food STILL on the shelves. By not buying their products you will be saving your pet, giving yourself some piece of mind and hopefully if everyone would do it, driving the into the financial hell their bad judgment put them in! It's just a shame that animals are still dying and getting sick. This combination worked for my dog (soupy minute rice and pedialyte) I hope it can help someone elses pet. Harley and I live in Florida. This is a very wide spread and about to epidemic stage, wouldn't you say? Good luck to all of you

She became reaaly sick recently with uncontrollably vommiting and diarrea. My dad took her to the vet and also took 3 days off of work to take care of her. The vet told him the only way to make her better was to have her spaid and that could not be scheduled until Monday and it was only Friday. We lost her at 230 am Saturday morning and when he took her to the Emergency vet they informed my dad that she did not need to be spaid that she had intenal bleeding. I can't understand how only three days prior to loosing her she was perfectly healthy. She will be unbelievably missed.

Chase, Odessa, TX died March 15,2007. I have read everyone's stories and I can relate to the pain. I'm afraid from reading these stories that this recall should have been done sooner. I have always fed Chase Gravy Train dried dog food. In November I went out of town and my daugheter found chase unable to move as if paralized from his hind legs. He had been running everywhere until then. We took him to the vet and they gave him a shot and some arthritis medicne Rimadyl. The vet said they should run tests. I was concerned at first but he started moving around better with his meds everyday. He was 7 years old. I really thought he just had arthritis. He became very ill and looked tired around late Feb. The vet ran tests and he was anemic low blood cell count. They asked if he got into rat poisioning. I immediately suspected mabe somoeone while we were gone could have poisioned him. He died the weekend before he was to go in for a bone marrow byopsy. I had to catch a flight March 15 that morning, he just slowly got up with no strength and looked at me with said eyes as if to say bye. But I didn't know it was a permeant bye. My daughter came to try to feed him some different food because I had told her he had quit wanting to eat. She called me crying and I had to have someone remove him because I didn't want him to stay there uncovered. My flight could not get back home fast enough. My daugher was to distraught to do anything.I hope that this recall gets investigated thoroughly for the safety of the other dogs and cats.

I lost my 14 year old keeshond Bear a week ago. He had been eating only Beneful dry dog food and since, it wasn't on the recall list I had no reason to suspect anything. Reading the posts here shock me in the similarity of symptoms. I would chalk it up to coincedence if the "fine one day, gone the next" factor was not involved. I would say don't trust any pet food whether its dry, canned, on the list, or otherwise. Better safe than sorry. I too am wondering if I killed my own dog. I don't blame the dog food company though... the FDA should recall all dog food until this mess is sorted out. Drastic? Maybe. Why take the chance?

My beautiful yellow lab Casey was happy and energetic one day and the next morning at 5 am he was so, so sick. I woke up to go to work and heard him crying in the garage where he slept. I walked out to find him laying in a pool of urine and he could not walk. He would stand up and then fall right back down again; almost as if he were drunk. He was very aware of his surroundings and you could tell he just wanted me to help him. My husband immediately ran him to the Vet Hospital and they took blood tests, etc. About 3 hours later, they said that he had crystals in his urine and that he was in severe pain. We had to put our dear, dear 3-year-old Casey down. This happened in October, 2006. When did the tainted food start getting reported? Could this be what happened to Casey? We have invisible dog fencing and knew that he hadn't gotten out (he was too big of a baby to cross through the fencing). The vet said that someone had to have come on our property and poisoned him on purpose. Who would do such a thing? It's been 6 months now and I still grieve and miss my dog and best friend.

Hi i have a question, My mom had a dog weve had her for 9 yrs and on thursday night she was playing in the yard and my mom had given her a bit of food to eat, and then she went into the bedroom and laid on the floor, my mom said she could hear her get sick so she went in there to check on her and she was laying in her vomit, She never got up, she didnt have the energy, she just stared up at my mom.. My mom clenaed her up and then our Max threw up again, Her breathing was really weird and my mom said she heard her gasp and then she passed away with my mom at her side, telling her she was a good girl and that she loved her.. and that they had fun together. she was my moms best friend! and my mom is totally devestated about this!

she was being fed beneful dry food .. I know this is on the safe list but does this sound like it could have been caused by the posioning? My mom said she had noticed for a few days that Max hadnt been herself, she hadnt been eating and she had been drinking like crazy.. My mom paid to have her cremated so theres no way to run tests on her, but to ease my mind what do you guys all think?i fell the pain all of you feel for the loss of your loved pets. and although alot of people may not understand.. they are not pets they are children. please email me and let me know if you guys think this is what this may have been.. silvrgrl2029@hotmail.com

thanks!

Lost,

I've done as you asked and sent you an email. I DO feel Max was affected by the food she ate. Beneful is NOT involved in the recall but DOES have a class action suit against it for "Premium" Pet Food Marketed and Sold as "Complete and Balanced" Contains Euthanized Dogs and Cats, Restaurant Grease, Hair, Hooves, and Diseased Animals, among other inedible garbage

I just received a mailing from Costco telling me that their records show I purchased dog food manufactured by American Nutrition. I still have the remainder of the food, plus all vet records, photos of my poor suffering puppy (4 yr-old Newfoundland), her show ribbons, etc. Over $5K in vet bills plus she was purchased at $1,400. That doesn't count the emotional trauma to her and to me, plus all the show costs, etc. She went into Intensive Care at our Emergency Veterinary Clinic only 1 week after eating the food and died 4 days later -- and terribly. I am very interested in becoming part of a class action suit to recover the vet bills and cost of my sweet puppy. Please advise as to what I should do. I received the notice from Costco the first Saturday in May.

Please be sure to file complaints with the FDA about all of the suspicious dog foods. I did about Purina Dog Chow dry food. Unless they get enough complaints they won't test a food. Save any food you have left, they may request a sample. We're feeding our dog Wellness Super 5 mix now and shes doing fine. She suddenly quit eating Purina and would throw up when we would get her to try a little.

Karam,

Great suggestions. Not only should people save some product but the also need to save the container it came in, too. If they still have the package we can trace back the codes, dates, etc. from the package.

I'm looking for samples of products from all over the US. I would like for people to send to me a sample with packaging, etc. so I can have the stuff tested. I'll post a hub with this information this weekend.

OMG. I just realized I have killed my dog for no good reason. I had a 14-1/2 yr old English shorthaired pointer. she had had a splenectomy in february and there were malignant tumors on it. The vet was quite sure he got it all but said that if he didn't, we'd see the same symptoms we saw before in about 5 weeks (lethargic, not eating, vomiting, etc). Well, almost 5 weeks to the day, she started throwing up after every meal. I thought maybe I was feeding her too much so I cut back but still she would throw up. I kept trying different things but after a week, i called to say I was bringing her in. The pet food recall had not occurred yet. I brought her in on March 17th (the day after the recall but I had not heard about it yet) and after a long day of tests and thinking things thru, I decided to put her down. I really thought that it was related to her problems before and seeing that she was almost 15 yrs old, I thought it must be that time. Of course I don't need to explain here the pain my family has gone thru since she passed. I was optimistic that I had done the right thing when I didn't see her food on the list but I am reading stuff just today and see that her food -- ALPO Prime Cuts in gravy is indeed part of the recall. I am beside myself. I finally found another puppy to rescue and love her but still long for my Lucy. And now that I feel I put her down for no reason, I am grieving all over again but on a different level. OMG, I can't deal. I'm soooo sorry my beloved Lucy. I don't know how much time you had left after that surgery but it looks like I may have cut it down without even knowing it. I'll love you forever!

Spike, a beagle & bassette hound mix, was a great dog. She was my travelling companion as I often have jobs out ot town. She was 8 years old and I had to put her down on December 23, 2006.

I was to leave for California for the holidays on the 22nd, but I got bumped off due to the Airline overbooking. Spike had been quiet, not eating as much of her food and had difficulty in getting up the stairs from the basement when I let her out to the backyard. I just attributed this to her being a little overweight. I do recall though, she had had Pedigree Milk Bones for treats, which she did stop eating now that I think about it.

That Saturday afternoon, I decided to take Spike & my roommate's dog Mason out for a walk. I went to get Spike, she was in the living room and she could not lift her bum off the floor , she could not get up. So, I immediately told my roommate to come with me as I was taking Spike out to her Vet. The Vet examined her & related she had a disc problem which he related to her breed, bassettes'. I was going to be an expensive operation costing $3000.00 and he related it may not work. It was a painful decision and I can still recall Spike looking at me with her beautiful brown eyes. I held her under her chin and told the Vet I did not want to put Spike through all that pain, nor did I want her to be the way she was so, I gave him permission to put her down. I had to leave the room immediately as I could not control my tears...as I am now. My roommate, Christine stayed with Spike when the Vet gave her the procedure. Christine assures me that Spike died peacefully. God....I miss my dog.....my little friend. She was a great dog.I can still see her , sitting up on her butt & looking out the window on the passenger's side of the car. I miss her knudging my arm when I am driving as she wants to be petted or rubbed on her head or to get her behind the ear rub. Anyway she was cremated so I do not know what really was the cause of Spike's death. She was well fed & well cared for through out her life. It may have been the milk bones that did her in.

Everybody, don't forget that June 17 - June 23 is the National Pet Food Boycott. Too many pets have died due to these pet foods and we are standing up to the pet food producers. Feed a jar of baby food if you don't have time to cook. That should hold you over until the boycott has passed.

My sweet 14 year old cat passed away on April 30, 2007 and I know it had to do with Pet Food Recall. I feed my cats Friskies and 9 Lives Wet Food and Purina One Hair Ball Formula Dry Food. Even they are not on the recall list I know it had to do with the Pet Food. My cat was fine one day and later that day started breathing hard I took her to the Emergency Room and they said she had Asthma, kept her for 4 days on oxygen and sent her home with tons of medicine. A week later I took her back because her breathing was worse, they claimed fluid in her lungs and more medication. Then I took her back because she started sneezing they claimed she had also developed an upper respiratory infection and gave her antibiotics. On April 29th I took her back to the Emergency Room because she was pacing around the house and loosing her back footing and then started meowing like she was in pain. I took her back they said her temperature was low put her in oxygen again and heating blankets, at 1:00 a.m they said she was improving when I called at 6:00 a.m. to check on her they said the doctor would call me back at 6:30 a.m they called to tell me she went into Full Cardiac Arrest and they were unable to revive her. I lost my beloved little girl and I am lost without her. It has been 5 weeks since I lost her and I still grieve her everyday. I know it has to do with the pet food recall. This has been an absolute devastation to me. I am sorry to everyone for their loss

My 2yr old Cocker Spaniel died suddenly today. She was fine and running around and my son found her this afternoon. We didn't even have a chance to take her to the vet. She was doing great with up to date vet visits, shots, heartworm pills and so on. She was always hyper and fun loving so we've went in circles all day trying to figure out what did it. We thought about a snake, spider maybe a poisonous rat. Our only conclusion was that we fed her Alpo Come and Get it Mixed Gril dry dog fooc with real beef, chicken, liver and cheese flavor. After reading tons of postings we've come to the conclusion of this being the cause of our babies death. What else would of killed her so suddenly? We are all so shocked and sad. We had to be with my 7yr old all day who cried for his baby too. We will remember her always.

My cocker baby died June 21, 2007 from CRF brought about by the recall. I gave her a mix of Alpo and dry Dog Chow with Fit n Trim. She was a Purina Puppy chow puppy and was on Purina all her life, who knew that they would kill her for our loyalty? She had just turned nine, and Purina robbed me of the years I could have left with her. The last month of her life I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. She had to be given IVs twice a day, lost her sight and shook all of the time. Nothing, not even me, could give her comfort anymore. My beautiful, brave baby is gone because I fed her. How could they let this happen? I will suffer the rest of my life because of this. Someone else decided for me whether my baby should live or die; it's not fair.

Rusty Miller 04/13/95-03/22/07

We lost our beloved little boy on March 22. He ate Jerky Treats (but not regularly) and was eating Royal Canin Sensible Choice Chicken and Rice dry food.

He got visibly sick on March 21, but had been drinking a lot of water and urinating a LOT (including many accidents in the house). He'd been vomiting off and on and had diarrhea occasionally, but I attributed that to getting into something in the yard (we have neighbors who leave food and trash lying around). He went from being relatively healthy and normal to being dead in about 36 hours.

I feel so guilty about this, because we were dealing with a pretty severe corn allergy and were just trying to give them good food. Why it killed him and not our other dog, we don't know.

It wasn't until the very end that Rusty had many of the symptoms I'm reading about here, so it was too late to do anything to save him by that point. I hope he forgives me and knows how much I miss him. Rest in peace, fuzzy one.

Hunter, our 3 year old beagle just died, suddenly on Tuesday 7/31/07. He was a healthy dog with a sweet personality, who doted on our 8 year old daughter. Out of the blue he started vomiting profusely and had terrible runny diarrhea on Monday. He refused to eat or drink that night and slept fitfully that night. On Tuesday morning, he appeared to have gotten over his "flu-like" symptoms. But it was not so. When we returned from work and daycare, my daughter and I found our sweet puppy dead and stiff - it was clear he had been gone for an hour or more.

We all felt guilty, wondering if there was something we could have done or known to keep him safe. Reading this is sooooo sad and makes me angry, but helps me realize that it is not our fault - it is the manufacturers' faults, the FDA's fault and a symptom of a tragically broken safety net.

His dog food was not on the recall list - Old Roy dry Weight management and Old Roy Dry Gravy bites with Milk bones for treats. All but the Gravy were bought in the past month at Wal-Mart. We thought this was past after the first wave and thought unsafe food would be off the shelves. We were tragically WRONG!!!

Despite their not being on the list, I know from reading the symptoms and these blog entries that this is what killed our dear friend, Hunter. We could not afford an autopsy and he has been taken by the pet cemetary for cremation (arranged before I found this blog). I still have the food but not the bag because we pour it into a Gallon keeper to keep it fresh. So, spread the word, the problems are not over.

My heart goes out to every single person who has posted on this site. To lose your very best friend, and in such a cruel way, is heartbreaking to say the least. We still have our sweet boy, Ty, a bullmastiff of 2, but after reading these stories I am concerned to say the least. After the original recall list came out, I decided I wasn't going to take a chance, and so started first, cooking turkeys for him. After awhile, I changed over to pressure cooking chickens, and when it seemed he was tiring of them, I rechecked the list of bad foods and didn't see anything at the time for kibbles and bits dry, which I put him on, and he seemed to do fine, and about just 2 weeks ago, I started adding this Pedigree "butchers selects" to the dry. For the following 2 days after adding the pedigree, I did notice, and my husband at the time mentioned to me, isin't he drinking an awful lot of water, even for him, and he was. I had noticed it for a couple of days, and he seemed to sleep a lot more, but that's not the case now, so I don't know if I'm letting myself worry over something or not. He hasn't had any of the other symptons such as the vomiting or weakness, any thing like that. I was trying to check out a newer list of the recalled foods before I got on to this page, but so far haven't found one. Can anyone tell me if they've had problems with thiis "pedigree' butchers selects" food? We just had him to the vet about 3 weeks ago, for a checkup, and they said he was doing good, but then I don't know how extensive the checkup was either, and at that time, I didn't have him on the pedigree, just the dry kibbles and bits. I may go back to cooking fresh meats for him. It has broke my heart to read your stories. These are our babies! As 'George Graham Vest" wrote, "The one absolutely, unselfish friend man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog."

I am soooooooooooo saddened and hurt for all of you who have posted your info on this site. I too lost my best friend, Angel, a 7yr.old chow mix, 2 weeks ago. Same symptoms as everyone else it seems. Throwing up, blood in stool, drinking alot, very lathargic, sleeping alot. Took her to the vet and they thought she had developed sugar and was going to start her on insulin. They kept her overnight and they next day they called and said we should come and put her down, because her kidneys were failing. I was glad I got to spend about an hour with her before we gave her the sho, but just knowing she was going to leave us was devastating, to say the least. It probably all started with Iams canned food, or who knows. I used to always give her Pedigree since she was a puppy. We just found out last night, via the internet, about the Bestro Chicken Jerky Treats and the Pet Life Basted w/beef flavor dog bones and the contamination of the melanmine. I am soooooooooo sick over this. She loved the chicken strips so we constiantly gave them to her, even when she wouldn't eat her food cause she needed something. Supposed to be 100% natural chicken breast and nothing else. Right!!!!!!!!! My girlfriend and I have contacted the vet to get her records, put all the food/treats in a bag and frose them and contacted an attorney out of Fla. who has a class action case going on right now. We need to band together and get some restitution, in memory of our loved ones we have lost. I want Angel to know her Daddy is fighting for what is right and that I had no Idea that I was poisioning her every time I either fed her or gave her a treat. Please feel free to contact either Cathy or Russell @305-358-6555. This is the firm I am going with and they have already filed this suit and you could be named a party to it, and we all pull together and put these companies and suppliers in their place and let them know they have taken our loved ones from us because of their neglect. Once again, I pray for ALL and please if you have not lost your pet, get them to your vet, and have them checked, so you can enjoy your time with them as we should be doing, instead of morning...... Someone please provide us with some insight. Annie, our 8 year old black lab, was our first baby. She had always been healthy, loving and playful. About two weeks ago she became very withdrawn and seemed to be in pain. Her movements became very lethargic and she refused to play. She would often whimper when making the slightest of movements. Last week she had two violent seizures which were heart-breaking to witness. As last week progressed, Annie's health declined rapidly. She refused to eat (not even fresh cooked chicken or beef), couldn't get comfortable, paced slowly not wanting to lay down and her stomach seemed to be bloated and painful to the touch. The vet indicated that her vitals looked normal other than her liver test was unusually elevated. We have always fed her IAMS dry and wet food PERIOD. We never changed foods as the vet said that it isn't good to switch foods. We also used the IAMS gravy, which has mysteriously disappeared from the shelves of Wal Mart the past several months. We did give her the Old Roy Twisted Treats and Old Roy Chew Bones. We had her put to sleep on Thursday, August 23, 2007 after a traumatic two weeks. My wife and kids are devastated at the loss of Annie. She didn't deserve this. I suspect the food. Can someone please help or offer some insight? On August 19, 2007. We also lost our beloved pet "Brandie" she was our special little girl. All of a sudden she became ill, throwing up, etc. We took her to the emergency vet and they admitted her, they told us they were going to put her on an IV and do bloodwork and that they would call us by 8 the next morning. At 7:10 we received a call from the Dr. that she had taken a turn for the worse and they were doing CPR but she was not responding. We were totally in shock. We brought her home an buried her in our yard in her favorite spot. Gave all of her food and treats to my bother-in-law. That evening on the 11 pm news, we heard about the WalMart recall and my husband called his bother at 7 AM and told him not to give Nicki his dog any of the chicken strips. He said it is too late I gave her 4 strips and she became very ill throwing up and diarea. Our little girl weighed 15.5 lbs and his girl a Lab 95 lbs. Thank goodness his pet is fine. Her treats are not on any of the recall lists, I have contacted the company that manufactures them and the pet store where I purchased the treats and sent the treats to the manufacturer for testing. I still have some of the treats because I want to have them tested on my owe, however, I cannot find any place that will test the treats. I have called the FDA, the University of MD, state of MD. all referring me to other agencies and numbers. I asked the FDA if they could recommend a place and they said they were not allowed to recommend only refer me to the yellow pages. What a run a round. If anyone can give me advice on a realiable lab where I can have the chicken strips tested I would be forever greatful. In closing I'd like to say how sad this is for all of us who lost our special little furry members of our family. I so miss that greeting when I come home and the little bark asking for those dern old chicken strips she loved so much. How I wish I had NEVER bought them.

My 11 year old Lab retriever Casey died of kidney failure March 14, 2007. I fed him Ol Roy basted milk bones, ALPO PRIMECUTS IN GRAVY and Purina dry dog food. My vet insisted it was not the pet food. This was before Alpo showed up on the list. I contacted Purina after it came on the list and even though it took some persistence they did pay me for all of my vet bills after reviewing the vet notes. Purina's experts determined that it very well could have been the food causing his death. I know that it is no consolation, as I will never get over the guilt, but considering that the were sympathetic to my loss and honestly as horrific as this all is I see no need to pursue it in a law suit. (Purina's attorney stressed that even though I accepted their check that no way prevents me from suing.)

The point is my Casey is gone. I took some of the money and rescued another lab from the jaws of death from Animal control, he was slated to die the next day. Buddy is a wonderful addition to our family. I donated more to my local humane society and another rescue group.

I like to think that sweet Casey, who lived a long and happy life, was making room for in our home for Buddy. I will always miss him, as I have my other dogs in my past. But more money will not bring him back. I implore those of you pursuing lawsuits, if you get a settlement please donate at least half to an animal rescue organization. I myself couldn't bear the thought of profiting from such a tragic event.

Just my 2 cents.

It was not an intentional event. It is an unfortunate occurrence due to our country's insatiable appetite for cheap products. We all are to blame for the imports from China both companies and consumers... I agree we trusted the pet industries products blindly, as I understand it, with Purina they had just switched to a new supplier. It was this supplier that let them down. If it makes you feel any better the man responsible in China committed suicide not long after the food hit the store shelves and it was found comtaminated, even he had not known what he had done.

I understand your reasoning and don't blame you. I just choose to spend my energy in other ways. I just ask that if you and others are successful in your suit to please use the windfall to help other pets. To me this and the lead paint in toys from China is a huge wake up call to all Americans. If we want to keep out pets, children and selves safe, we need to be aware of what we are buying. Now I did not know that companies like Purina bought foreign ingredients. I was ignorant to that fact and thought that an American Pet food companies only used American goods... now I know better. We need to be careful of all imports and it seems even American companies using imported ingredients. I for one buy organic when I can and I'm considering the same for my pets. One great pet food company I think we can trust is Flint River http://www.frrco.com I am not an affiliate I just bought some of their food when a friend recommended it. It is pricey but the dogs eat less of it. And love it. It is not full of grain fillers like most pet food.

I commend you on your pursuit and trying to get a count of lost pets. I feel the published accounts of deaths is way under the real amount. It is tragic and I hope we have learned our lesson, but it is doubtful. In other countries children have died from such poor regulation of products. Although I know our pets are our children, we are fortunate that for now the loss of life has just been our pets.... we could be next.
