HP Welcomes New Engineer!

I have a few items of good news that I'm very pleased to share with you this week. Firstly, HubPages has welcomed a new engineer, Oren Radousky, into our Team. Oren studied Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego before joining us here at HubPages. He's quite the Renaissance man. Aside from the engineering stuff, Oren also juggles, rides a unicycle, plays several different musical instruments, and dabbles in photography. What a skill set! At HubPages, Oren will be working on fixing bugs, keeping the site running smoothly, and creating awesome new features. You can read more about him in our latest Blog Post.

Hubs Get Stylish New Social Buttons

Many of you have probably already heard about our new social sharing buttons on the HubPages Blog, in the Forums, or seen them on your Hubs. If not, here's the quick and dirty: last week we changed up the design, and we also switched to static social buttons. The new static buttons mean that Hubs load much faster since they no longer have to make a javascript call to each source to retrieve the count. The new buttons have been performing 24% faster on the first fully-loaded view and 38% faster on repeat fully-loaded views. We're still tweaking them to get as many shares as possible, but we're very pleased with the results so far.
