A Glossy Black Raven's Wing

For Poetry Month, I want to share this greeting card, which I designed with a photograph of a beautiful Raven, landing on an exposed Juniper branch.

There is a striking Raven couple who has lived here since before we acquired this land. They were the first to greet me when I initially walked this completely undeveloped acreage. The property's only possible inhabitants would have been Native Americans, and it borders tribal lands.

There are two versions of this card here. While I do not usually "enhance" my nature photography, this image just seemed to lend itself to being color tinted to express a certain feel, which is seen in the bottom photo. The text on the card reads:

A shadow suddenly sweeps the ground

Announcing a visitor

A bare limb senses the approach,

Then feels a graceful, weighty landing

&

A glossy black Raven's wing opens wide

A world of wonder

Before my tear-filled eyes...

It is my heartfelt hope that you take time to observe and enjoy watching birds in Nature.

I do that on a daily basis, as well as photograph them. When I lived in Maine, they guarded the land. When I was away, a friend said that mobody would dare break in.

Hi Linda,

Your poem and photo is breathtakingly beautiful. I live in the city but I always enjoy watching the birds. On my way to work one day I saw two sparrows trying to eat a piece of pizza twice the size as they were. I wish I had a camera with me. :)

Voted up and sharing
