Heroic Dogs Amazing Feats Of Courage

Hero husky saves two huskys and two cats from locked truck by honking on the horn!
Hero husky saves two huskys and two cats from locked truck by honking on the horn!

These will melt your heart with their stories of bravery.

Cats and dogs are our pets. They comfort us when we are down, make us laugh with their antics and generally make a household a warm and fuzzy place. Most people see animals as part of their families, but rarely do we stop and think how important they can be.

How many times have we seen a dog chasing around after a ball, then something happens and the dog turns into well, super dog?

What goes on in their minds? Is it a territorial reaction? Do these animals believe we are part of the pack or are they really thinking hey I have got to save this child?

Maybe they are all little angels in animal bodies! What do you think?

Dogs and cats are our little hero's. But sometimes dogs go above and beyond the call of duty!

Argentine Dog Saves Baby.

This little dog from Argentina saved an abandoned baby after finding it in a field surrounded by rubbish and boxes.

The baby boy had been abandoned by his terrified 14 year old mother, and left in the field. The dog, named La China. heard the baby crying and went over to investigate.

The dog then carefully picked up the baby and carried it 50 metres back to her den. China had six pups of her own, and the owners believe that it was her maternal instinct that kicked in.

The owners of the dog heard the baby crying and informed the authorities. The baby was completely unharmed apart from a few scratches, The whole of Argentina are praising the dog and saying that she has touched their hearts and are calling her a hero.

Ah bless her!

Dog Saves Owner From Choking.

When pet owner Aysha Perry started to choke, her dog Sheba knew exactly what to do. Aysha was eating chicken in the front room while watching TV, when a piece of chicken approximately one and a half inches long got stuck in her throat. She started to panic, and fell to the ground. She was on her own and didn't know what to do.

She started to reach for the phone, but before she managed to get there, her Japanese Akita, Sheba, who was asleep in the kitchen, heard her distress. And in the style of a super hero wonder dog, rushed in and jumped on her back giving her an almighty whack between the shoulder blades! The chicken shot out and Aysha began to breath.

Sheba then rushed round and started to lick her face. What a little hero! Evidently Aysha has helped Sheba since then when she got a paw caught on a fence, but she still feels totally indebted to this amazing dog.

Buddy Saves Owner From House Fire.

Buddy, a German Shepherd saved his owner from a horrendous house fire when his owner 23 year old Ben Heinrichs was caught alight by a spark from the car he was fixing. Buddy the dog was in the workshop with him, and when Ben ran out he shouted at Buddy, 'We need to get help'.

So Buddy leaped into action. He ran along the road and waited until a car came along. It was Alaskan Trooper Terrence Shanigan, who got the call but had got lost purely because his navigation system had stopped working. He spotted Buddy and instantly realized that something was wrong

As you can see from the video, he decided to follow the dog, and was amazed to see that Buddy took him straight to the blaze. After getting out the car Terrence realized that the workshop was in flames and the shed received damage too.

Terrence said that Buddy was a real hero, who continued to guide him from the car when they got there and leading him to where his owner was in trouble.

Since then Buddy has received a silver plated dog bowl for his heroism! Go Buddy!

A Dog Named Hero.

I have been reading and watching many videos and stories of doggy heroes, but this one actually made me cry and say Wow out loud. I had to watch the video twice, it blew me away!

The story begins when Shannon Lorio had a massive argument with her husband, and decided to go for a drive to blow off some steam. In southern Georgia the roads are long and winding and the woodlands are vast. With hardly any cars or people for hours at a time its not a good place to have an accident.

But this is exactly what happened to Shannon on that day. Where she was driving is locally known as Nascar Road, because the people drive to fast.

Losing control of her car, it veered across the road and shot down an embankment. Losing consciousness she woke to find that the top half of her body was laid on the trunk, and her lower body was sprawled over the back seat.

She was confused, in pain and continued to collapse into unconsciousness. Then suddenly a strange thing happened.

Shannon woke to feel someone or something breathing on her face. A German Shepherd had jumped up onto the vehicle and was licking her face to wipe away her blood.

She blacked out again, and when she came round she realized that she was being moved. The dog was pulling her from the car!

The dog pulled her up over 100 feet to the top of the ditch and continued to drag her across the grass towards the road. Shannon was beginning to come round more, and decided to try to stand up. The dog stood there and allowed Shannon to pull herself to her feet by hanging onto him.

Shannon then managed to flag down a car and asked the driver to phone her husband as she had had a car accident. She then passed out and woke to find herself in the hospital.

She found out that she had an intracranial hemorrhage which, left untreated could have caused death. Luckily she didn't need surgery, and recovered well.

Her life was saved by a stray dog, who came out of nowhere. Shannon was in tears as she said ' The dog did everything for me, if he hadn't have found me I wouldn't be here now, I believe, in my heart, that I would have died'.

Since then the dog has been taken into the Humane Society, and now he is being trained to be a search and rescue dog, which is very appropriate.

They Named him Hero. And search and rescue trainer Heidy Drawdy has adopted him.

The last word comes from Shannon. 'I told him, you will always be my hero'.

Any dry eyes left in the house?

Want Some More? Quick Bites! (excuse the pun!)

Austin Forman was outside collecting wood in the small town of Bar Boston near Vancouver BT. He said that Angel stayed by his side instead of running around like she normally does. By this time it was dark, and suddenly Austin saw a shadow that he presumed was another dog.

But it wasn't. It was a Cougar! The cougar leaped for the young 11 year old boy, but Angel got there first. The cougar grabbed Angel by the head and tried to suffocate her. There was a frantic call to the law and they came out and the cat was shot.

Angel was badly injured by has gone on to make a full recovery.

Et Tu Brutis!

Brutis a 7 year old golden retriever saved a young child from a horrible fate when he noticed a coral snake slithering towards him.

The dog snatched up the snake and ran away with it, suffering near fatal injuries from the encounter.

Brutis was saved, and for his heroism was flown to Los Angeles and received the National Hero Dog Award.

Go Brutis!

The committee went on to say, 'We give this award for animals that give that something extra, and we still don't understand why they do it, but they do'.

There's Something about Eve.

When Kathie, a Paraplegic who is totally paralyzed, was caught up in an appalling accident in her truck after it caught fire, her dog came to the rescue.

Eve her Rottweiler was there to save the day. She ran over, grabbed Kathie by the ankles and proceeded to drag her to a nearby ditch which was just far enough away to save Kathie from the truck when it exploded.

Nyla The Guide.

Nyla The Wonder Dog!

Nyla became a little fire hero when Sheila found herself surrounded by smoke and flames. Sheila couldn't see anything and would have perished in her house if Nyla hadn't guided her to safety.

Every single time Sheila couldn't find her way, Nyla would bark to get her attention and then wait until Sheila had found her before heading towards the door and safety.

Her home was completely burned down and destroyed but Sheila went on to say, ' Nyla could have left at any time, but she chose to stay and save me while putting her own life in danger'.

Cheena, Sheba, Buddy, Hero, Angel, Brutis, Eve and Nyla …all amazing stories of courage, quick “thinking” and action, and downright love. (Hero’s reaction had in me in tears.) We can learn much from our canine friends, Nell. This article is a delight. Thank you. Voted up and shared.

As a long time dog lover, I really enjoyed this Hub. Dogs are super intelligent; people don't give them enough credit. I enjoyed the videos you chose for this Hub, too.

My little dog will probably never be a heroic dog, but she is my hero, anyway.

Voted UP, etc. and shared.

I loved these stories so much Nell! I always stopped to read dog stories I find online and they are just so many that dogs really do not get their credit among animals. I saw a video online of a little girl playing and I guess a parent taping her and a poisonous snake comes for her but her dog gets between them. Been awhile so I don't recall if the dog was bitten or what but he saved the little girl. They really are angels and deserve more than a metal but I am sure all they want is our live. Voting up and sharing!!

When it comes right down to it, Nell, I think many of us have more faith in our dogs than human beings. That says a lot now doesn't it? I'm just not sure what it says. LOL

Thanks for the great stories.

Oh, dogs are such great animals, who provide not only unconditional love, but do whatever it takes to protect its owners! As a child a three-legged yellow lab, we named Brownie, adopted us, and would hop along with us all the way to school when I was in the first grade and my brother in Kindergarten. He would not leave the play the entire day and waited for us to get out of school, then walk us back home safely.

He was the best dog any child could have had as a childhood pet.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories here.

Hi Faith, aw he sounds amazing! how sweet! I remember when I went to Corfu, there were a lot of not exactly wild dogs, because they belonged to owners but they were always living outside, and boy where they intelligent! and very street wise. I had to laugh when on a couple of occasions the dogs would walk me to my lodge, then lay on my feet! another one would lay next to me on the sunbed and the owner said it was because they knew I was English and would feed and pet them! lol! but the funniest one was in Kos, there was a huge beach filled with about 200 people, but where was the dog? yep, under my bed! lol! thanks as always, nell

Awww Nell, this article is great! I've heard so many stories about heroic dogs...last month I watched a video on FB of a dog that was trying to help his dog pal who was hit by a car. He was trying to push him off the street towards the sidewalk. So sad, but so brave. Dogs are a man's best friend :)

Nell, you found some great heroes here. Why we are always so amazed when we hear stories like this is surprising, for dogs have a natural instinct to rescue/save/help humans in danger. Yet we are always so touched when we read another story of a four-legged hero. Awesome hub. Thank you so much for the joy (and the tears) by introducing these dogs.

Mel, these are amazing stories of canine heroism. This was a joy to read.

When my son was an infant, we took him to South Florida to spend the weekend with my parent. We had his playpen on the 3rd floor landing, which is where I put him down for a nap. Suddenly, my mom's Yorkie started barking. We kept telling her to be quiet or she'd wake the baby. Well, she kept it up. When we went to see what she was barking at, she was standing in front of the playpen. Apparently, the big teddy bear we had in there had fallen over on my sleeping son. Ruffles was letting us know that we needed to get the stuffed animal off the baby. She'd never had a litter of her own, but her maternal instincts kicked in when she thought my son was in danger.

Dogs are amazing. Thank you for this beautiful article!

I would like to think that every dog is a hero but when my mother fell and broke her hip her dog of 14 years went and hid under the bed and left my Mom sprawling across a flight of stairs. It was a Girl Scout selling cookies that finally heard her cries and saved her. Perhaps your next hub should be about heroic Girl Scouts.

Just goes to show that like people, some dogs are heroes and some are abject cowards. But thank you for restoring my faith in dogs somewhat. Great hub!

I DO NOT LOVE THEM NELL..... No way. Hear this in 2010 i visited my grandmother in Venezuela who had two cats living in her house. Gross! I told her she will have to do something about those cats well she got rope and tied them outside like if they were dogs. It was comical and the first time i ever saw someone tied cats ha ha ha. I couldn't careless once they were out of my way. I refused to sit on the living room chairs because there is where the cats mainly reside when inside.

Yeah Nell they can poop outside but while that poop takes time to turn manure it's stinking up my yard so i will need someone to clean up after the dog, maybe a husband :) ha ha ha

Yes, I used to have a German Shepherd that slept in front of my bedroom door every night, guarding me and my husband. Allergies prevented me from having him sleep with us, unfortunately. When I went to the doctor with asthma, that was the first thing he asked me - did I have any pets and I just knew he was going to tell me to get rid of them. But instead, he told me to keep them out of my bedroom. It was hard at first, but when I did that, my breathing improved 90% when I went to see him again. And so, my sweet German Shepherd adjusted by sleeping in front of the door every night and I didn't have to get rid of him, which would have broken both our hearts.

Hi Ann, oh that is a shame! but yes as long as it gets rid of your asthma then you could keep your pet, our cats my source of asthma but I loved them to bits, as well as our dog. our dog had hair not fur so he was okay.
