Cat Juggling

Updated on November 11, 2011

What IS Cat Juggling?

Cat juggling is one of the biggest and darkest secrets that have eluded mankind over the last century. Yes, Cat Juggling. A skill that involves the throwing and catching of more than two felines, without allowing them to touch the ground, just for the mere entertainment value and/or the sheer sport. It is one of the most serious, multi-tasking events that include both man and cat.

To many folks, it is a well respected art that requires a harmonious connection between the juggler and the furry critter. To others, it is nothing more than a means of individuals capitalizing from an event where many kittens are being discombobulated and humiliated for the profit of others.

It's History

The history of Cat Juggling is believed to have begun around the turn of the century, by a man known as Pig Eye Jackson. Pig Eye made his fortune with ability to hurl these domesticated carnivorous mammals, into a circular motion, at ranges from 5 to 15 feet above the ground. Hundreds of curious individuals would file into a dark, smoke-filled rooms, for a price, to witness this feline phenomenon. Pig Eye was not only the father of this “sport” but to this day, is still the most accomplished master of CJ, to have ever lived.

The Art

Though Pig Eye made this look somewhat simple, the concentration required to not only keep these little fellas from rendering their tiny yet razor sharp appendages from digging deep into the hands of the juggler causing excruciating pain, all the while maintaining a complex figure eight design of feline madness of motion.

Even though it never gained popularity throughout major cities across this nation, it still had an enormous underground following. Though gambling was heavily inspired through all of this, it still had its share of supporters who simply admired the beauty of calico kittens being adorned in the air, melodiously. It has been said that there is nothing more exquisite than Pig Eye doing his infamous “Nine Life Catmap Extraordinaire”. Where he simultaneously engages nine tabby’s for over 64 revolutions.

Entertainment or Atrocity?

Peta and other such organizations have assembled lawmakers to enforce harsh penalties to anyone caught performing such acts. While opposing groups have advocated it’s art back into the mainstream of American entertainment deeming it has positive effects upon the species, and is encouraging more ownership, leaving fewer to be “put down” in animal shelters across this land.

Millionaire Navin R. Johnson has organized group efforts to stop this kind of event from continuing.

Though I have no real opinion on it’s future outcome, I find this topic rather fascinating.
