Cruelty to animals
Animal: What comes to one's mind when one hears that word? Perhaps something furry, something feathery, something slimy, something with a beak and lots of sharp teeth? However, does one think of life, a beating heart, and receptiveness to stimulants, feelings and struggle for survival amidst tremendous odds? Take a minute to stop and think of this. After all, animals aren't the cuddly stuffed toys that one sees in departmental stores.
A major issue of today is the cruel acts against test of animals in class rooms and labs. These animals are literally being tortured to death by substances such as drugs, cosmetics, diseases, tobacco, alcohol, detergents and other poisons.
These acts of cruelty - locking animals in complete darkness, sending them crazy, turning them into drug addicts, inflicting diseases on them such as AIDS and Cancer, turning them blind or deaf. And many cases of mice, rabbits and guinea pigs and even monkeys having cosmetics, detergents and other household products rubbed into their shaved skin and having it dripped into their eyes all while being under no anaesthetic at all. And for what reason, what does this achieve? We are only finding out things we already know such as, we know smoking causes cancer, drinking ruins the liver and we know the effect of drugs on humans and the results from these experiments are not totally 100% accurate anyway because animals are different from humans.
In high schools around the world, hundreds and thousands of animals are killed and dissected in science and biology classes simply to learn the anatomy of a frog or rat for example. For what reason do they teach this? So we can know how to inflict cruelty towards animals. In most of these cases, children are forced to do and if they choose not to inflict these cruel acts towards a helpless animal they will suffer as well by a loss of marks.
After years of science and technology, we still use these unreliable and cruel sources to find out little or no information about cures for diseases instead of spending the same time and money on preventing these diseases in the first place.
In the year 2000, it had been reported that over 7,600 greyhound puppies and 11, 400 old greyhound dogs were killed. Reason? They were deemed not fast enough for the insane dog races enjoyed by humans. In 2006, over 350, 000 baby seals were killed by clubbing during the annual Canadian seal hunt. A study conducted in 2001 reported that over 42% seals were skinned while they were alive and conscious! And we call our human race the most advanced and evolved of all in the animal kingdom.
P.S. Before I sign off, I would like to mention another animal abuse fact. According to the animal abuse statistics, no man, woman or child has ever begin killed or harmed while trying to protect animal rights and save an animal from abuse.
