Dogs were very important to people in the Middle Ages until the present. They have been used for herding, guarding, hunting, companions and for food in some areas. Most present day dogs live the life of leisure. They are accepted as family members. Some still work but not they are usually companions and family pets. Some of the dog breeds have very unusual names and some are rare and not well known. All dog breeds are important and have there place in society.
The Borzoi is a loving, kind gentleman. They are great around the house. They are very loyal to their family. They appreciate a quiet and peaceful place to live.
The Borzoi dog will weigh 60 to 105 pounds and be 26 to 28 inches tall. They have medium long silky hair that will be bronze, white, tan, gray or a combination of color.
The Borzoi dog is also called the Russian Wolfhound. The Russian nobles developed the Borzoi dog hundreds of years ago to hunt wolves. In the 19th century, they were a hunting party dog. They are now popular pets. Some of them are still used for guarding and hunting.

The Alaunt dogs were first used in war by the steppe nomads and the Kurgan. In 1500BC Spain is said to have had the best Alaunt dogs. The original Alaunt was a sheepdog.
The Alaunt is said to have resembled the Central Asian Oveharka dog. They were used as livestock guard dogs and war dogs. They are very protective dogs.
