Peanut Butter Dog Bone Recipes

 

The state of the economy has not only affected us but it has affected the pet industry. One way you can continue to pamper your pet and save a few bucks is to make your own dog treats. It is good for your wallet and good for your favorite pup.

 

What dog doesn’t love peanut butter? Here are 2 great, natural, healthy recipes for peanut butter dog bones.

 

Peanut Butter Dog Bones

 

You will need:

 

½ cups water
2 tbs. oil
2 eggs
½ cup peanut butter
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup oatmeal

 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

 

In a large mixing bowl combine the water, oil, eggs and vanilla. Add the flour and oatmeal and mix well. Fold peanut butter in dough until it is well mixed. If necessary add water by the tsp. to make the dough workable. Take dough coat it with a little flour to prevent sticking and roll it out. Shape or use a cookie cutter, I use a dog bone shaped one, and place on a non-stick baking sheet. Cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Allow to cool in the oven. Once they are cool and crisp place in an airtight container.

 

Pumpkin Peanut Butter Treats

 

You will need:

 

2 ½  cups whole wheat flour

2 eggs

½  cup canned pumpkin

2 tablespoons peanut butter

1 tsp. vanilla

Optional ** 2 tbs. melted butter.

Cinnamon

 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

 

Mix together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, and vanilla in a bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough into a ½ -inch-thick roll. Cut into ½ -inch pieces. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes until crisp.  Variation: Roll dough ¼ inch thick. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon over entire surface. Roll dough up into 1 inch roll and cut into ½ inch pieces.

Bacon Buddies

 

You will need:

 

2 cups flours

2 eggs

½ cup crumbled graham crackers

½ cup crumbled cooked bacon or Baco’s

½ cup water *you may add more as needed

 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

 

Mix flour, eggs, graham crackers, bacon and water in a large mixing bowl. Dough will be firm; you may add water as required to make it roll easier. Roll out into ½ thick piece and use cookie cutter or cut into strips. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 40 minutes until crisp.

 

All of these dog biscuits can be stored in an airtight container or frozen. Your dog will love them and you will love the savings.
