How I Met My Puggle
The Start of Something Great
Around two years ago I reconnected with a long lost friend from high school days. It was through him that I met two of my best friends. One: was his then girlfriend, a relationship that has since ended, who I am now the closest of friends with. And two: was the introduction to the link that connected me to my baby Pug-Tzu.
Meet The Parents
Ozzfest was his name. An adorable little black pug of about a year old at the time. I instantly loved him. He was hyper and loving and friendly and he enjoyed using me as his snot rag. He would just run up to me all excited and instantly sneeze right on my arm then hop off and run away to burn circles in the carpet with his tiny little feet. He was a rambunctious little guy. But he stole my heart.
About a year later mommy came along. She was an old Shih Tzu they had rescued. Someone had tied her up and left her alone. She was up there in age but just as sweet as ever. She was a tiny little thing, but she lit up the room.
Love at First Sight
Almost a year had passed before I had the chance to see my friends again but we kept in touch. A lot of things had been going on and changes were made. I find out one day that Elly was pregnant and about to have puppies! I had no idea because SOMEBODY had forgotten to tell me...cough cough....Sunny Robinson...cough cough.....
Elly ended up having FIVE puppies. Three looked just like Ozzy! I was excited! I HAD to see them. I had mentioned upon the very first meeting that if Elly ever had puppies with Ozzy, I wanted one. There was no way I could pass up this opportunity!
The Very First Meeting!
The puppies were about 6 weeks old I believe when I first met them. They were running around the living room terrorizing the house with their little bodies, big eyes, and overwhelming cuteness. I instantly was picked out by the one that would come to be my own. He was a tiny little thing. Not the runt of the litter, but still so little. He started following me everywhere and I instantly fell in love with him, like I did over a year ago, when I first met his daddy. That night when I went to bed, he, and the other four puppies slept on my pillow next to my head....well okay, all five puppies took over my pillow and pushed me off to the side. But my little man never moved.
Baby Coming Home
About a month later I was asked, "so you want your baby?" Naturally I said YES! She brought him to me that day and I was so ecstatic! He was even more adorable then I had remembered. He looked just like his daddy but with more hair. From that day on he was Dexter, my little puggle.
Growing Up and Getting Bigger
Dexter is now closing in on his sixth month of life, and his second month with me. He is getting so big and learning so much. He is a character. He knows tons of tricks already and he has stolen my heart. Never have I been so connected to an animal as much as I am to him. It is amazing to me how much he learns and how smart he can be, and how he decides when he feels like listening. It makes me laugh so much when I see him run in circles around the room like Ozzy did when I first met him. I don't think I could ever imagine what would have happened had I not jumped at the opportunity to adopt him.
Daddy and Dex
A Long Road Ahead
Part of me keeps wishing he were older because I can't wait to see all the things he will do in his life, but at the same time I want to spend all the time in the world with him. I guess many parents feel that way even though this is an unconventional family. He is my child and I am his mother. I will cherish the road ahead, every step, every mile, of everyday.
