Naming Your Dog : Popular Dog Names

Source

The day has arrived when you are preparing to bring home your new edition. Purchasing all the necessary grooming products, bedding, leashes and collars. You even made a call to the veterinarian preparing them for the new arrival! Creating a list of names that just may fit that adorable package can become grueling. What you think his/her name should be ends up changing. Pumpkin becomes Precious and Leonardo becomes Valentino.

Have you ever brought a pet home and been asked, " have you named them yet?" The name 'Come Here' has been going on for three days! Your rambunctious bundle of joy runs to you licking your face hoping that you will hurry up and choose a name. You are thinking," Oh God he/she probably thinks I am an idiot!"

Many of us love our pet/pets as much as we do our own kids, if we have them. For those who do not have children, pets are there kids and choosing a name is just like making the choice to name a child.

If you are looking for a popular name to give to your pet this is the place you will find it. If you can't find it here at least you will know what your neighbor may have named there puppy/dog.

Male Names

Isn't he adorable? His bark says a thousand words. Stealing your shoes and socks and you find him sleeping in your favorite chair. He needs a name, what would you like it to be?

Missy

Or Jasmine. Whatever you decide to name your little girl , base it on personality and character. When her eyes light up and she pounces on your lap, you know it was the right choice.

So many choices and decisions. It doesn't matter if you choose a small Yorkie or a Great Dane. A male or female. Choosing the name for a dog can be a complicated. Just like human parents you will compile a list and go over the list multiple times before you narrow it down to a few. In a hospital room you only have 24 hours to make a final decision. If your new found friend has been given a name prior to you bringing them home; he/she will not be the least upset if you change his/her name. They adapt quickly and comfortably so don't feel guilty if you decide to make him/her a Stella or a Max. With a dog at least you have a few days so take your time and come to the right conclusion.

I love dogs, I've had dogs all my life - and I never give them 'dog' names, I give them the name that I hear in my head when I meet them . . . I've had Steve, Dave, Ruth, Larry, Leonard, etc, etc . . .

I really enjoyed reading this. We are in the process of looking for a new puppy so I've bookmarked this for future reference!

What an awesome hub. I am linking this one to the one I published today called, Cute Puppy Pictures, National Puppy Day, Puppy Love. These both go great together.

Let's see...Blackie / Black Lab (real original), Skye (American Husky), Otto (Doberman), and Pharaoh (another Doberman)...but since I put down my last dog in 96, I have not had the heart to get another one. I figure that when the time is ready, one will find me.

It was fun to read your list of names - I couldn't decide which one I liked best! Rufus and Zeus sort of appealed to me for boy dogs. I liked Sasha in the list for girls. Guess I need to think about getting a dog first, though?

A very nice hub! Voted up, useful and interesting.

Marcy Goodfleisch: You need to start looking for a new baby to add to your household. There are babies out there in need of loving homes. Dogs bring so much love and light when they are around. There is one out there waiting for you. :)

Alice and Dreamer, none is in your list. I don,t feel good about it.

AEvans profile image

AEvans 4 years ago from SomeWhere Out There Author

Anna Damaris: The names on the list were polled by over 20,000 people. I didn't poll them personally but based on research those were the most popular names. We have 2 dogs whose name is not on the list which makes there names even more unique just like Alice and Dreamer. I like your names too! :)

I enjoyed reading your Hub. I have two girls: we named one Baby, and the other Bailey. Everyone thinks Bailey is a boy for some reason! I written about these two several times cause they are my kids.

AEvans profile image

AEvans 4 years ago from SomeWhere Out There Author

mary615: I do believe I read about them. Now if you were to ask me about the name 'Bailey', I would think it is a girls name. But that is because I remember the little girl lost in the Oklahoma City bombings and her name was Bailey. I love those names. :)
