You Too Can Have Unconditional Love
Are you lonely? Maybe you have lost a loved one, and you feel like your world is never going to be the same. Or, perhaps like so many people today, you are still looking for the "right one", but the search has been going on for years with no end in sight. Or, another scenario, you find yourself alone because you had to move far away from family and friends to pursue an education or the career of your choice. Whatever slot you find yourself in, you know just one thing, at the end of the day you are coming home to an empty house and you don't like it.
More people live alone than ever before, and while some people enjoy being alone, most do not. Websites, like match.com and eharmony are a symptom that people are not happy in their aloneness and want to do something about it. Some people do meet and marry others they find online, but many do not. These lonely people are often giving up and resigning themselves to a life lived solo. It is sad, but there is always a solution if you just stay open minded.
A few years back I found myself alone for the first time in my adult life. Because I had my dogs with me, I never felt "alone". And, my dogs protected me. I felt very safe even though I was alone in the middle of nowhere.
Many people completely overlook this source of unconditional love. A dog will always love you unless you mistreat it. Dogs are also loyal, once they bond with you, you are their favorite person forever. If you are not a dog person, or do not have room for a dog, you can always get a cat. Cats are also good company, and can be just as loving and devoted as any dog. I have had plenty of cats who were anything but uppity. Cats are a good choice if you don't want to go through housebreaking a dog or taking the dog out for walks. As long as you have a clean litter box, a cat will use it.
Now maybe you are thinking....there are no pets allowed where I live. Well, guess what? Many places that do not allow pets, will allow a guinea pig. Guinea pigs are absolutely wonderful pets! Guinea pigs are big in the UK. Princess Diana had a beloved guinea pig. Guinea pigs are the easiest pets to take care of. You simply place them in a clear tote box with food, hay and water, and you are done. Every other day you clean them out, which takes all of 2 minutes. Guinea pigs are clean little animals, and only soil one corner of their cage, so clean up is a simple matter of scooping out the bedding in that corner and replacing it with clean. Once a week the whole cage should be cleaned out. A guinea pig makes a great first pet for children aged 8 and up. They are gentle, lovely, sweet little creatures, and all the little squeals and oinks they make for food are extremely endearing. They like to be held, and they will sit around and watch TV with the family. If you have more than one guinea pig, you can even hold a guinea pig race. They can run very fast on their strange little legs. Guinea pigs come in a huge range of colors and sizes. There are a variety of breeds, but they all have the same loving and gentle personality. I have yet to meet a mean guinea pig! They are very social animals, so that means you have to pay plenty of attention to them, and have play time everyday. A guinea pig can bring a smile to the face of even the most lonely, depressed person.
So, if you are lonely, think about getting a pet. For millions of people a pet enriches their lives to a great degree. Next time you are feeling down and blue, and you feel like giving up on love forever, go to the humane society or guinea pig rescue and see what they have. Somewhere out there is a furry little friend that has unconditional love in its heart just for you!
