Parakeet Budgies Facts
Behavior - Parakeets are friendly, easy to train and bond type of birds. Being a bird from parrot family tree they can be trained to talk. They prefer to live in flock whenever possible or no matter how much they fight among each other. They do make a lot of noise around people they know or care and in some cases sit still for hours without making a sound if they're around stranger.
Gender - If the parakeet is below 1 year of age then it's really hard to notice the gender of parakeet. You can take them to avian vet or professional breeder to know the gender of parakeet. There are some blood or DNA tests that vet usually do to find out the gender of the bird or they've learned few more tricks which helps them to find out.
Food - There are plenty of food items which are not suitable for parakeets. Before serving them anything make sure you know if it's good for their health. Read more about parakeet food before you give them any which may or may not be suitable for their health. Don't just feed the seeds to your bird all the time. You should give them multiple foods in order to keep them happy and healthy.
Diseases - Parakeets usually don't show symptoms of illness because they're worried about natural predators who hunt them if they're sick. In such case only way to find out if they're sick is by observing their droppings, body (beaks, nails and other parts) to check for illness. Many birds do fall ill during their lifespan of 5-7 years due to bacteria and other infection and only way to keep them safe from this is by showing them to avian vet if symptoms are observed.
Pet Shop Owners and Advice - Many pet shop owners have opened their store only for profit and they rarely give good advice related to birds or any other pet. Make sure you verify every advice they give you by asking in forums or online question and answer sites to see if their advice is flawed or not. More than 90% of advice that pet shop owners in my area give is flawed and is only to sell their birds immediately.
