Poem for Squeaker

Squeaker, my sweet kitty who disappeared in an instant, never to be seen again. I tried every avenue and possibility to find her but never did.

POEM FOR SQUEAKER (June 1, 1988 / June 2, 1988)

I AM GROWING USED TO YOUR ABSENCE

THOUGH IT IS NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO DO

IT IS A MATTER OF GOING ON,

BELIEVE MY HEART AND SOUL STILL YEARN FOR YOU

I HAVE NOT GIVEN UP MY SEARCH, EACH MORNING

AND NIGHT I CALL YOUR NAME,

NO DOUBT, I’LL GO ON BELIEVING

YOU’LL RETURN TO ME AGAIN

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

IS THAT YOU’RE SAFE AND WARM

AWAY FROM HARM

AND YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU

MY DOORS ARE ALWAYS OPEN,

HOPING YOU’LL MAGICALLY APPEAR,

THAT I’LL WAKE UP ONE MORNING

AND FIND YOU LIEING NEAR.

THE SPECIAL LOVE WE SHARED

IS NOT A COMMON THING

AND THE JOY AND LAUGHTER

SO SPONTANEOUSLY YOU BRING

TO THE DARKEST OF MY DAYS

AND THE SADDEST MOMENTS PAST

BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY,

MY LOVE FOR YOU WILL LAST

MY PRAYER FOR YOU IS THAT YOU’RE SAFE AND WARM

AWAY FROM HARM

AND YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU

THROUGH THE MONTHS AND YEARS

SO MANY TEARS

I HAVE CRIED FOR YOU

THIS SENSELESS MYSTERY

THAT WE’RE GOING THROUGH.

BUT BELIEVE ME, BABY SQUEAKER

I’LL CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR YOU.

BELIEVE ME, BABY GIRL…

I’LL NEVER EVER FORGET YOU.

Circa 6/1988

Poem I wrote for Squeaker, my beloved cat of only 2 years but, during those years we shared a unique and deep closeness. I loved her so much. She mysteriously disappeared within 5 minutes time from when I last saw her, went into the kitchen, returned to the back yard where she'd been and I never saw her again. To this day, 22 years later, i still wonder what happened to Squeaker.

Oh Kathy, that just breaks my heart. I can imagine that awful feeling in your heart all these years, not knowing. Im so sorry that happened. I would feel the same way. Your poem is just beautiful, true spoken words from your heart. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you Tanya. Well, it was so so sorrowful a time. I did everythig...ads in the paper for weeks, posters, flyers handed to school children, radio spots and searched over and over for months. I wrote letters to editors in local papers and never, ever found out the mystery. I even sent her picture to Sylvia Brown who sent back a note along with the picture saying that Squeaker had left this life. I had a dream prior to that..it was so real. I woke feeling relieved because Squeaker was there next to me and I was holding her and petting her and all was well. It took a few minutes to realize I had it backwards..that it was a dream. Oh, yes...

Thinking of what to say to you, I glance over and see my MacGregor sleeping nearby and know that there are no words. I'm sorry for your loss, Kathy.

Oh, Kathy. I am so sorry for Squeaker's loss. I do understand your feelings: I once had a dear cat named Kitty Hawk who disappeared, and I still think of her, missing her terribly. I hope these dear ones found what they were looking for.

Not knowing what happened to them can be much more trying than knowing their fate.

Much love and good wishes.

I'm so very sorry you lost dear Squeaker but I truly hope Squeaker will return one day, we cannot replace all the love our animals bring to our daily lives. I hope 2011 is kind to you.

....you have been a big part of my online life here at the Hub. I have always admired you for obvious reasons because of our mutual love for our cats and as you know Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel are my two best friends for life. I also admire you because you are so darn smart and a great writer too so please all allow me to wish you and your extended family a Happy New Year with continued health and happiness and peace and contentment!!!
