Pooch Has Incredibly Sore Feet
As would you, if you lived the life of this Rhodesian Ridgeback pup. A resident of Dorsland (the Afrikaans name for South Africa’s vast Kalahari Desert), this pooch is pooped after prancing about the piping-hot sands under the relentless African sun.
His daytime job?: helping to protect and defend the springbok, eland, duiker, kudu, meerkat, warthog, gemsbok, hartebeest, hyena, steenbok, giraffes and lions of the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve from poachers and private hunting parties, with only a mid-day snack of wild watermelon and a few laps of water to slake his thirst.
(His foot-fleas have obviously had it. They are either voluntarily jumping from the frying feet into the fiery sands, or have been fricasseed by Ol’ Sol into Rhodesian popcorn.)
But don’t be unduly concerned for this canine. His breed dates back to the early 1800s with the Khoi-khoi tribes in the vicinity of Plumtree, Rhodesia, and it will survive the bleak Kalahari for years to come.
