Buying A New Tropical Fish Tank?

So you have finally decided to take the leap and get a new tropical fish tank. I know this is something which can be a challenge because their are so many small tropical fish tanks for sale to select from. I know this is a challenge because even with my aquarium I always have trouble in picking out the right one to house my fish. Materials Used In The Construction Process

I know finding a new aquarium is a challenge and one of the biggest challenges I have found is you have a couple of choices with the aquarium you are buying. Here are some of the materials which are commonly found in the production of the tanks. Each of these have their own positives and negatives, but overall the tanks are great and typically these are the common materials which are found in the small tropical fish tanks for sale.

Glass

Glass is one of the most common ways an aquarium is made. A lot of people do not think about this, but with the glass aquariums they are some of the most common ones to be found. Here is some information that I found when I was looking at the glass aquariums for my fish.

Pros:

- Low cost. This is a key factor when you are looking at the small tropical fish tanks for sale. I know my tanks are lower costing, but they are nice enough for me. Granted, when I go up in tank size I will look at the different tanks which are available at a higher cost.

- Sizes that are available. Normally I would not think about this, but the glass tanks come in a variety of sizes. Since these come in so many different sizes, I do not have to be concerned about not being able to find the aquarium which I need to get my fish housed in.

Cons

- Can be scratched. Yes, this is true for any aquarium, but I have found with the glass tanks they are very easy to scratch. These scratches are usually very narrow and small. However, the scratches do tend to make it a little difficult to see my fish inside of the tank.

Acrylic Small Tropical Fish Tanks

Acrylic is another tank material which people will enjoy. This is very easily one of the best tank materials I have ever seen and I know this will help you keep your tank for a long period of time. Here are some of the pros I found when you use this material for your aquarium selection.

Pros

- Durability of the tank. This is a tank which I have found to really help you in getting to keep around for years. Actually I have found, when talking to various zookeepers who have fish in their zoo, they use acrylic. I figured if these are good enough for a zoo, it is obvious it is going to be good enough for my home tank as well.

- Customization of the tank. Normally I would not harp on the point of customizing a fish tank, I mean seriously you can have these tanks made into almost anything you want. So you can easily have a tank made to fit your specific needs and desires.

Cons

- The main con I have found with these tanks is they can easily cost a fortune. So if you are on a shoestring budget, you may need to look at some of the other materials or find a smaller acrylic tank to get your fish housed in.

Basic Plastic

Okay, I am sure everyone has seen the cheap little gold fish tanks. These are so cheap because they are typically made from very low quality plastic. Since these tanks are so low quality they will not cost a fortune, but here is some information which will help you determine if you are getting the best tank or not.

Pros

- Cost. Lets face it these tanks are very cheap to make and maintain. However, you need to remember you are getting what you pay for so you may want to use caution when looking at these tanks and the cost which is present.

Cons

- Easy to destroy. Yes, you read that right since these are low grade plastic the tanks are easy to be ruined. So you will want to be careful where you are putting the tanks because they are so easy to break.
