There are over 250 different types of Cobras.

The King Cobra is the longest of the venomous snakes and has been known to grow up 18 feet (5 meters) long.

The head can be as big as a man’s hand or larger. It can stand up to one third of its total length. That could make it tall enough to look you straight in your eye.

One of the things that makes the Cobra so scarry is its hood. Their hood is made up of flaps of skin that is attached to long ribs. The Cobra can squeeze this part causing it to flatten and spread out wide. It makes the Cobra appear to be larger and scary! Another thing is that the King Cobra can move in a forward motion while holding its head. This movement and having its hood flatten is sure to put fear in most people!

The King Cobra has fangs that are almost half-an-inch long. Its venom can be deadly and will stun the nervous system of anyone bitten by it and could stop their breathing. The venom of the King Cobra may not be as strong as some of the other cobras, however, it can deliver a larger amount. In some cases it is enough to kill 20 people or even an elephant.

Most cobras will hide when people come near them. However, this is not true of the King Cobra. The King Cobra will usually rear up, raise its head, and flatten its hood in a display to scare away any person on animal that is threating it. Then it will hiss and mock strike as a warning. The next time it will most likely bite. This is not always the case, it may strike and bite the first chance it gets without any warning at all! Cobras can do a dry bite, they can bite without injecting any venom. Don't count on that! It is no snake to mess with! In fact there really aren't any snakes to mess with. If you should come across a snake its best just to leave the area quickly!

King Cobras mainly live in the Philippines, Northern Africa and Southern Asia.

The King Cobras build a nest for their young! Just like birds do only on the ground! They are the only known snake to build nest.

King Cobras lay about 20-40 eggs. The eggs take about 60 - 90 days to hatch. Both the male and the female King Cobra watch over and protect the nest. The baby snakes are called hatchlings because they are hatched from eggs.

Cobras usually live to be about 20 years old sometimes a little longer.

Cobras eat small mammals, like rabbits, mice and rats. They will also eat lizards, fish,  frogs, toads, birds, eggs, small chickens and even other snakes.

In the case of the spitting cobra, when its venom comes in contact with the human eyes, it can cause immediate and severe pain! That means it really hurts!!! If untreated, the venom could cause permanent blindness.

Most cobras are natives of Africa. Among them is the spitting, or black-necked cobra, found from southern Egypt to northern South Africa. This snake can spray its venom from a distance of about 2.4 (about 8 ft) accurately. Varieties of the spitting cobra range in color from dull black to pink, the lighter-colored ones marked by a black band around the neck. The ringhals, a different type of spitting cobra confined to southern Africa, is the smallest of the cobras, reaching only about 1.2 m (about 4 ft) in length. It is dark brown or black with ridged, or keeled, scales and light rings on the neck. The asp, or Egyptian cobra is widely distributed throughout Africa, being the most common. Contrary to folklore, cobras will seldom attack unprovoked. When threatened, however, the Cobra will make full use of its deadly force. Cobras are famous for their use by snake charmers because they respond well to visual cues, and are of spectacular appearance.

Did you know, snakes are mentioned in the bible many times. There was one time when Moses was talking to God. God had told Moses to go to Egypt and lead His people into a new land, a land that God had promised to give the Israelites. Moses thought this task was too big for him and it was, but with God nothing is impossible. Moses was telling God that he didn’t think the Israelites would believe him. They wouldn’t believe that God had told him to come to Egypt and led them into the promised land. Now Moses had a staff, a rod, a long stick usually with a hook like end, that he used to Sheppard the sheep, God told Moses he would give him a sign. Here is part of the story.

Exodus 4

Signs for Moses

1 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The LORD did not appear to you’?”

2 Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?”

“A staff,” he replied.

3 The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.”

Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.

4 Then the LORD said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.

5 “This,” said the LORD, “is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

Did you read the part where,

when Moses threw it on the ground and the rod turned into a snake, Moses RAN! I think Moses was a very wise man! Any time you see a snake it is wise to run, run in the opposite direction of the snake!

God gave Moses some other signs and instructions as well. There is more about snakes in this story too.

You can read the whole story in the Holy Bible. It is in the Book of Exodus.

You can take an experiment, the God is real - the Experiment to find out if God is real.
