Smoky Mama and her Kits Plus Pups

The sweet little kits are nearing 3 weeks old. Fat and healthy, these babies are a joy to behold. Daily, their antics entertain me as I watch them behaving like beginner acrobats, tumbling over each other and rolling onto their backs. These kittens walk around with their eyes wide open, taking in all the newness in their young lives. Everything is worthy of an extra sniff while trying to fix gazes upon the sight or sound of interest. I love these babies. Soon, they’ll be under foot and in the way as they continue to grow and explore this big life which is about to unfold. We’ll make sure no harm comes to them and that every experience is a wonderful, loving one.

Candy, the in town rescue of over a week ago, has recovered nicely from her entire dental extraction surgery which was necessary because of massive infection and illness caused by her bad teeth. We walked her through those hard days when everything she ate hurt like crazy, giving her mashed up “pate” by Friskies and either chicken or beef broth. Now, she is able to handle more solid food. Her dissolving stitches are all but gone so, that annoyance has ceased. This little girl was so frail and sick that we weren’t sure, the day we found her and rushed her off to the Veterinarian, whether she would survive or not. Thank God, all has worked out wonderfully. Candy is rooming with Basil, our 21 year old man who has become a permanent member of the feline family after 2 years as a “foster.”

Pups are in their new digs. A nice, big dog run next to the original run where our other 5 dogs live…everyone has indoor shelter, protection and lots of room to run. All’s well in the Animal House.

This is just a very short and simple update on the beautiful new family members of the Feline Funny Farm or, aka, The Crazy Cat and Canine Club. Take your pick.

More to come soon…I promise…

I love your pictures but I'll bet they are even more wonderful to hold and love in person. You are wonderful to be there for them and they are lucky to have you!

Kathy, I "am" glad there are people like you, who will care for and about animals of all kinds. The storybook farm I grew up on "I" was much like that. No animal was not welcome, wild and tame both. But that farm no longer exists, and I have changed. I do still "care," but that's all, so that's why I'm glad there are people like you.

Hi Kathy,

Isn't it one of the most beautiful sights in the world to see babies - of any species - enjoy life and explore! And they are getting so big!! As long as we have sights like this, there will always be hope for this old world. All the animals are just adorable - I have to say my heart melted just a little bit more when I saw the beautiful photograph of Little Darling! Oh she is so sweet!

The photogragphs and the hub has just filled me with joy and awe for the hard work that you and Al are doing! I've said it before but will say it again - I thank the spiritual powers for wonderful people like you and Al!

Voted up beautiful and awesome!!

Hello Kathy, My how the little Kittens have grown and the Puppies too. I like them all but the little white puppy with the black eye is special, you can see her shyness in the picture. Thank you for sharing pictures.. See you soon...Cheers

I have to admit "Little Darling" is so adorable, if she wandered into my proximity, one dog apartment rule or not, she'd be with me. She is too cute. Thank you for all you do for every animal you meet. You change the world for better, Kathy, one critter at a time.

Great hub! I agree with the other commenters that it's wonderful that you take in so many stray animals and give them a loving home. I especially loved the photos of the kittens nursing-- it's like a huge pile of warm furry bodies. LOL :)

Thanks for sharing!

Oh! I love your 2 names for your home "The Feline Funny Farm" or the "Crazy Cat and Canine Club"-- both are great. Me, I just tend to think of my home as the "Crazy Cat House." ;)

Hello Meredith, subRon, Flora, Rosemary, Makusr, Leslie, Helen, Catgypsy, Ruby, Amy, Colin, Reprieve, and Augustine!

I am very happy to see so many who relate to this story and appreciate the love and value of our companion animals. The heartfelt comments and kindness is so very important..and it gives me so much more determination to continue on in this 'calling.' (Ok...who's the wise guy? Who called me to do this? don't you know how utterly time consuming and emotionally stirring this particular "calling" is????? LOL)

Anyway, I wouldn't have it any other way...couldn't actually...and, somehow, I've been given the space, time and resources to do this along with Al (I could NEVER do this w/out him...and his feelings/drive and determination is equal to mine..thank God)...Somehow, we keep on keepin' on.

Little Darling is so very sweet and shy. She was the last one we rescued that day..,.so weak and yet, she kept on walking away..very slowly and we did not chase or pursue but, rather, allowed her to finally decide that going with us was the best option. When these babies were all loaded into Al's truck, it was "THE BIG EXHALE" X 5 !! Five pups spread out all over the cab of Al's truck.

Watching Smoky nurse her kittens is like watching a wrestling match...a big kitty pile on top of Smoky Mama...too cute!!

Away we shall all float on a sea of love, Augustine...that's what "floats my boat."

Leslie and Helen..all I can say to you and Colin and Amy and Reprieve and Cat Gypsy, Augustine, Ruby, Makusr, Rosemary, Flora, Meredith, Subron and Sunnie!!!!! Thank you 1000 X's + 1000 more!!!

Well, thank you each and every beautiful one, for the visit, the support and soothing words. Your friend, Kathy
