Wild Birds of Autumn

As a cooling wind blows across the bays,

wild birds stir from their nests,,

Southern warmth and blue skies beckon,

by Autumn's charm, at its best..

Mallards,Teal, and Red heads fly,

In their great flocks, they all spread,

then winging on their journeys long,

the birds, to the south, will head.

Wild geese, Wood ducks, Pin tails, and Blacks,

drakes and hens, all are paired,

grace the skies with a beauty so fine,

where fairer climes are soon to be shared.

Great V-shapes meet a morning sun,

after traveling amid cold hard showers,

each bird has weathered in their flight,

the strains of flying all of those hours.

Shimmering waters greet the weary groups,

beneath them now, they're shown,

as colorful waves approach the golden reeds,

while in the winds they're blown.

Each lighting with ease, down upon the lake,

landing with hardly a wake.

warming water awaits each traveler,

and a peaceful rest, each bird will take.

The wild birds of Autumn, so delight our hearts,

with their beauty and spirits so grand.

such loveliness, theirs, never to be compared,

nor real likeness, by an artist's hand.
