Why I love my dog

I am a mother of three teenage children, my oldest is going off to college, my middle is a junior in high school, and my youngest a freshmen in high school. I had recently been feeling lonely. My kids didn't seem to need me anymore, or I had suddenly grown boring and stupid as my children didn't want to be around. I really just needed to take care of something. I had decided I needed a pet, a companion, a best friend. So I set about looking on the internet for information on different breeds of dogs. I knew I did not want a high maintenance breed, or a large breed. I wanted something small, one that would sit on my lap and be happy, one I didn't have to take to the groomers constantly. So I found the perfect breed for me, a chihuahua, yes, that little yippy yappy breed. Ok yeah she might be a little yippy yappy, But they are a very sweet breed. They are mostly loyal to one person, I am not saying that they will not allow other to people to be around, but they prefer ones persons company over anything. They are a bit of a hyper dog, but walking and excerise take care of that.

She doesn't required alot of maintenace. I take her to the groomer about twice or once a month for a nail clipping and shampoo, but other than that she pretty much doesn't need alot.

I love how sweet this dog is! She is just so darnn cute! That face, so sad little puppy eyes, it's almost too much. I love when I decide to sleep in that she licks my leg when its time to get up, and if I should roll over she gives a little sigh and lays right back down, only to start this process over again in 15 minutes. It's like having an alarm clock with a little licking sleep timer. I love how she can't quite bite hard enough to squeek her hot dog toy, so she jumps on it. I love how when I play fight with my son, she will protect me, but when we are done with our play fight she will go to my son and lick his cheek, as if she was saying " I'm sorry I bit you, but I had to protect my mommy." I love how after she gets a bath she runs through the house at mach speed, don't let them short legs fool you, they are fast. I love how excited she is to see me, even if I've only been gone 5 minutes. I love how she nudges me with her nose when she wants my attention. I love how she is smart enough to unzip my purse and get my gum out, I hate picking up pieces of foil all over my living room. I love how when we play she barely bites, like it would break her heart to hurt me. I love how she barks with her whole body. This list could be never ending, so I'll end with this, I love my dog!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hub! I too have a 'baby'. She is the picture you see as my avi. She turned a year old June 4th. I can't remember what we did without her. She is always there for me. If one of us gets sick, she never leaves our side. If we get up to go anywhere, no matter how tired she is, she goes to take care of us. She is always forgiving, always loving, always ready to play or to just sit and listen. She never gets mad, she never holds a grudge. How many humans are like that?My goal is to one day be a good a person as my dog is.

You named her well 'Bella' = 'Beautiful'. She's a doll. Don't those eyes just look right through to your soul? I love Bella's bed. Sooo cute!

Thank you allshookup. I too aspire to be as great as my dog, I love that little girl soooo very much. I don't know what I would do without her, she is my constant companion. My kids hate it when I call her their furry little sister, haha, but they love her too.

It's so funny how they become such a big part of our lives, and family. She really is like the new baby to the family, although technically she is not a puppy anymore. I guess because of their small size we consider them puppies their entire life.

I forgot to mention in this hub that her nickname given by my husband is Portabella because her name is Bella and she goes everywhere with me.

Isn't she sweet? And so well-named too! Dogs come into our homes and just walk into our hearts - yes, they ask for so little and give their all - if only more humans were like dogs!

I love cats too, they are very cute, But I don't love them enough to own another one. I had one before and he was nothing but trouble. I choose now to love them from afar. Other people can own them and I can visit them and pet them without actually having to deal with them.

Feline, I know that you probably love dogs too, thats why you have that great sense of humor.
