   My dog has diarrhea, very bad smelly gas, and blood in stool?
   
   Just got a dog yesterday and he has diarrhea, bad gas, and now there is blood in his stool? Is this a need for concern?

   Yes  Dogs can become dehydrated quickly.  Did you change his food?  Some dogs GI tracts are very sensitive to changes in diets.  I would first call the owner where you got the dog and ask if there had been a change and then ask a vet.  Make sure he/she has plenty of water and try giving it some rice and chicken, or rice and hamburger. They literally sell it in the store and at the vets office now but I usually make it myself if my dogs get sick       Good Luck

   I'm sorry to hear your new dog is having these troublesome symptoms. Diarrhea, gas and blood are definitely concerning and warrant a vet visit as soon as possible.
   
   Sudden diet changes are a common cause of GI upset in dogs, so switching foods could very likely be the culprit here. Their digestive systems are quite sensitive. But the presence of blood indicates irritation or inflammation that needs medical attention.
   
   Some possible causes include:
   
   - Dietary indiscretion or food intolerance
   - Parasites
   - Bacterial or viral infection
   - Inflammatory bowel disease
   - Colon polyps or cancer
   
   The vet can run tests to identify the cause and provide appropriate treatment. In the meantime, try switching back to the previous food if possible and give bland foods like boiled chicken and rice to give the stomach a rest. Make sure your dog stays well hydrated.
   
   Probiotics and digestive enzymes may also help soothe the GI tract. Once symptoms improve, transition slowly to a new food over the course of a week or more.
