   Should homeowners cover the medical expense of the mailcarriers who got bitten by their dogs?

   As with almost everything of this nature, there is no one answer to cover all incidents. It depends all on one simple thing, however: who's fault was it that someone was bit?
   
   If your dog was unchained or in the only path that the mailcarrier could take to perform his job of delivering the mail and the mailcarrier was bitten, then the homeowner should take responsibility for the actions of his pet.
   
   If the mailcarrier could have easily avoided the situation, then he deserves to have been bitten and should learn his lesson not to approach strange animals when there is an alternative route.

   In my neighborhood,  under most circumstances II would say yes, because our mailboxes are at the end of our driveways at the road.  Our area does have a leash law and our pets are not, by law, to be just roaming around - they must be inside, fenced up, chained up, or leashed.  If for some reason the mailcarrier came up and tried to pet a dog that was fenced in or chained up and was bitten I would feel differently, but honestly can't imagine a mailcarrier would do that.  Also, many homeowner's insurance policies will cover this issue, if it arises.

   Absolutely. If I was a mail carrier and your dog bit me severely, I would sue you for the value of your house!
   
   It is a financial necessity to ensure the safety of anyone who is required under law to enter your property: law enforcement authorities, mail carriers, utility readers, etc. The court system will penalize you harshly, in the event an occurrence such as this actually takes place.
   
   The law is always more inclined to favor those individuals whose jobs are protected by it.

   Yes because the canine is the responsibility of the owner.  If that dog bites anyone it is your problem unless the dog is responding to a real threat up on your life and limb. Then it should be the dumb criminal's problem.  Mail Carriers and Dog have long histories of being mortal enemies LMAO
