What does 'pet friendly' mean to you?

Most people seem to think pet friendly is about dogs (and only dogs) being allowed into public places. I have asthma and allergies to animal hair so I'm not all for this. But, aside from that, if a place goes pet friendly shouldn't that include all pets: reptiles, insects, birds, rodents, etc? Does your version of pet friendly include a large snake for instance?

My favourite bookstore, a store I have spent a lot of money in over several years, has become unofficially pet friendly. I wrote to protest but they chose to have animals in the store anyway. I'm still pretty angry about it.

A pet is a pet. How can it be restricted to just dogs, or even dogs and cats? Snakes might smell funny but they are as safe as having a dog in a store. On the plus side, snakes don't have fur so they might not be a problem for allergies.
