They are like a part of the family. I don't know what I would do if I lost one.

      Jeff,
I feel the same way. I love my pets. They're great company.
      Thanks,

My 3 beagles are not only a part of the family, they are three of the best friends ever had. Their perception of your mood is remarkable and all they ask for in return is affection--and food.

      Larry,
They do want love and dinner. Isn't that what we all want?
I know what you mean when you say pets can detect your mood. They can. If I'm down for any reason my cats come around and make me feel better. It's just so amazing:)

      stunned56,
My cat Obie lived to be nineteen. I still can't believe a cat's life span is so short. It's a shame. We love our pets. It's so hart to let go. I remember the morning she died. I cried and cried. Nothing helped. It's just so sad.

We have 3 dog and each and everyone of them is so special to us.  They often create chaos around the house but we are willing to put up with it as they are family.

Our kids are grown so now our kids have 4 legs.  We have a Leonberger, a Lab and a German shepherd.  All very different but loved.

They are definitely part of the family.
When I was young I lived in the country and my dog was like my best friend we went everywhere together and the bond was very strong. He dies when I was 19 and the only pets I had for many years were fish & birds.
Then we had a pair of cats and they were our children. When we split they were 15 and I missed the cats far more than my ex.
I live as a expat now and I don't have any pets or any plans to get any.
But when people talk about their pets I can definitely relate.

we call our golden retriever our "golden child"...and my son calls him his fluffy brother smile Very much a part of our family. I think animals add to the joy of life....they're so responsive and loving and loyal. And did I mention that our dog is a stand up comic??????? He makes us laugh so hard sometimes!!!
