Depends what kind of children you have... you have children who are gentle then a Ragdoll might do. You have children who like to pull whiskers, ears, and tails you want something that can and will run away, else you want an injured Ragdoll. I've had to deal with a lot of Ragdolls, never seen one that was even remotely aggressive, even when being medicated and despite having long fur they don't normally matt up like Persians and the lot. That being said my favorite nickname for them is "shitting chia-pet" because they tend to be super dumb. As far as health... most breeds that have not been severely inbred for the show ring have similar levels of health. You might have more robust cats from more ancient and/or genetically diverse breeds like Siamese, Abyssinian, Bengal (or any other wild cat hybrid)... but most of those are plucky and don't always do well with kids.
