The most exotic pet that owned me was a cat that thought it was a person - a fifteen year-old furball of claw and sinew called ' Blacky ' ( how original! ), that would terrorize small children with promises of affection, which were deftly swapped for a fur-fight at the drop of a hat.

Many years ago I ran a rodentry where I bred fancy rats (including furless) and exotic rodents such as Winter White Dwarf Hamsters (who turn white in winter) spiny mice, doormice, I probably would have gotten into more if I didn't suddenly develop allergies. From there I took in a gaggle of rescued furless cats for a stint and nursed them back to health before rehoming them. I had two Bengals (cross between a normal cat and an Asian Leopard Cat) once too who were hell in fur. haha. I had a domestic skunk dropped off here at one point - now that was a clever goofy little animal if there ever was one! Would have kept him if it wasn't illegal in my state! Right now though all I'm into is Seramas. They are the world's smallest chicken - about the size of a soda can. They come in over 2,000 colors, smooth feathers, curly feathers, slikied feathers (like a chicks their whole life!) and feather-footed. Did I mention they are so sweet, intelligent, and can lay me breakfast?
I'm totally in love and enjoy my wee feathered friends who I'm raising for indoor pets (as the breed was created for in Malasia in the 1980's...) Exotic pets do not have to be dangerous pets and I am happy there is something out there for everyone.The chicks are TINY when they hatch - the size of a memory card. It's been amazing raising them. I will probably post some Hubs about them in the future.
Faith, as much as I love animals, I never have...however, my nephew, Jay, owned an iguana a few years ago...Can't remember what he named it, but it's amazing how these pets get so attached to people.
Jay loved that pet, and when it died, he was extremely sad. I am loving the answers to this question, especially Theophane's love for Seramas...I never heard of them and I am going to google these unique feathered friends.
IF I owned an exotic pet I know I would get attached to it immediately, as you know how deeply I love animals, especially our four spoiled cats.
