Pekingese - I have two of them, they don't shed much, they are small, they are playful, cuddly, and with some training can be smart.  They have awesome personalities.  My one pekingese watches tv with me all the time.  She literally watches.  If a dog goes across the screen she will run over to the tv and watch with her paws on the tv stand.

My favorite breed of dog is an American Stafford Shire Terrier and Pitbulls. American Staffordshire Terrier because i have one, her name is Belle and she is the sweetest dog anyone could ever ask for. She is also a good watch dog because she is very protective of my family and i so we know we are safe and well taken care of when we are around her. I also like pitbuls because I feel they are so misunderstood because everyone assumes they are an evil breed. When the truth is so many pitbulls may come across as "evil" because the terrible way people raise them. I hate how people fight them and torture those poor animals it is just uncalled for, terrible and monsterous. And its sad because most of animal shelters are occupied by pitbulls. So everyone adopt pitbulls! smile

I am really torn between Rottweilers and English Mastiffs. Our first family pet was a Rott and he was such a good friend and pet. He was very loyal to our family, protective but not aggressive and he was very intelligent. Now since we lost him several years ago we recently got our first two English Mastiffs and they too are very loyal, very gentle, intelligent and just impossible not to love. They have great personalities and really were a perfect fit into our family.

I love them all!!They are all unique with different ways of communicating with you.If you look closely they all have a sense of humour too. Thats a very difficult question as I have seen some  dogs that I could see great potential for rescue work, movie work, cadaver dogs etc. However the owners did not really "KNOW" their dogs well enough to see its greatness.I am a firefighter and when my yellow lab sees me put my uniform on he knows that he won't be going with me, however when he sees me put the blue jeans on he knows he will be with me wherever I go. I did surprise him once and took him to the fire station and he stayed overnite.
To answer your question....keeping in mind its the dog owners that usually screw a dog up....the good all round dog for children, field and water work including tracking and great kindness is the Labrador Retriever. My Labs name is Beau Regarde. This is French for "good looker". Incidentally thats all the French I know. Take care.

I love all dogs - but my absolute favourite breed has to be the Boxer. We have one - Henry - who we adopted and he is adorable. Boxers are so funny, they never grow up,much like his owner! very gentle with children, very inquisitive and protective though not vicious and extremely intelligent.

Greyhounds are my favourite breed, always have been and always will be.  They are fun, loveable and placid and make fantastic household pets.  I just hate to see how they get cast aside after they have been sucessful or unsuccessful racers.

If ever any of you hubbers are looking for a new dog, consider going to your local Greyhound Rescue centre and giving one of these gorgeous animals a new life, please.
