Does anyone know how to breed fantail goldfish or how to tell if they are male or female?

I'm off to find you something with pictures, as that will help a bit smile. Depending on the age of the goldfish there may not be much difference that you can see in the shape of the vent, though males tend to have one closer to their tail fins. Females tend to be larger, rounder, and have less bold colors while the males generally have slightly flatter sides. In addition, males will develop "egg spots," or slightly yellowish spots, on their pectoral fins and gill plates as they mature and are ready to spawn. Fancy goldies will generally breed in about 50G of water, though I know a couple of people who have been able to manage it with a very clean 30G. Also make sure you have a mature pair...depending on their care they should mature around 2-3 years of age. One of my favorite goldfish sites is, they have a forum on there where you can ask your questions at any stage of the process and there are thousands of hobbyists of all sizes that are active in the forums. I'll also gladly help with any other fishy questions you might have smile.
