Make Your Own Mother's Day Gifts
10 How-Tos for Mother's Day Gifts
Once again, it’s time for Mother’s Day gifts, or Father‘s Day, Christmas, Chanukah, if not a birthday or anniversary of something - these inexpensive handmade gifts can be made for anyone, but for the sake of this article it’s all about Mom.
We all, as adults, begin at some point to wonder what Mom wants on Mother‘s Day, rather than go get something we want for her, or spend money on something she later puts in her yard sale. And right now we’re in a global recession on the brink of depression, and any gifts can be hard to come up with.
Usually by the time the kids are grown ups who are shopping for her, Mom’s got all the main ‘stuff’ (bread maker, vases, sculptures) already, and even in good economic times it can be hard to come up with something nice that she will value and want to use, and even more so if the amazing gift must be hand made. Some totally unique stuff is required for Ma, now.
Sure, she says all she wants is ‘you there for dinner at 4,’ but secretly, every mom hopes she gets a nice surprise on Mother’s Day. Not an expensive present, mind you, but a pleasant surprise; the two can be one and the same and yet worlds apart in theory, reality, and cost.
Good Homemade Gift Ideas
For instance, there are things that moms like to have done for them, or need a break from doing themselves; things that work her body or stress her out, and nice things that she never does for herself. There is always something we can do for Mom that will make her life easier somehow, and it doesn‘t have to be cheap, even if it is inexpensive or free.
This will be long, so for convenience to the reader, each gift idea will be separated by subheading articles and photos so they’ll be easy to find and refer to later. The Subheadings are for:
- The old Coupon idea taken further
- Scented and colored mineral salts in beautiful glass vessels
- Original spice mixes and condiments
- Homemade Artisan Pasta
- Craft supplies (is *enough craft supplies* even a real thing?)
- Natural cosmetics, cleansers and moisturizers
- Bedazzled candles and tea lights
- Handmade blanket
- Photograph album that’s a paper album, not digital
- Cedar birdhouse
