Excellent set of posters. I gotta say, though, some of those early ones look like they star Boy George.

UnnamedHarald, Mhatter99, thank you both for commenting, much appreciated.

There are so many great western posters from that period, even the B-western posters were superb. I had to leave so many lesser films out and keep to the famous ones. I will do a poster hub on the B-westerns of the 30's at some future date, the artwork is astounding.

Harald the Unnamed, I know what you mean, some poster artists did go overboard with the makeup on the stars, look at the lipstick on Gary Cooper on The Plainsman poster, he looks prettier than Jean Arthur! :)

Thanks for posting.

An excellent collection of classic Western movie posters....not surprised that John Wayne was well represented....but interesting that Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott had so many movies....I have always wanted to see their 1962 western Ride the High Country(thanks to Danny Peary's Cult Movies book) but have never been able to see that one.

James Cagney(Oklahoma Kid) and westerns with him riding a horse does not seem to go together very well.....and in that movie you also get Bogart looking uncomfortable in the western setting.

I think Cimarron is one of the lowest rated Best Picture Oscar winners....even with Irene Dunne in one of her earliest roles.

I am not too familiar with Yellow Sky ...but it stars two of Flora's favorite stars...Peck and Widmark.

A very interesting tour through western posters...your 198th hub is a winner....you are getting so close to number 200. Voted up and awesome.

Hello Bruce, thanks for commenting on my Old Old West poster hub, it is appreciated.

I've never seen Cimarron but that poster has always been one of my favourites. It was the first western to win Best Picture Oscar, it would be nearly 60 years for another western to win the big prize, Dances with Wolves, followed two years later by Unforgiven, the third and so far last Western to win Best Picture.

Randolph Scott appeared in many westerns in the 30's 40's and 50's, not sure if he has appeared in more westerns than John Wayne.

Ride the High Country is a very good western, Scott's last movie, he and McCrea make a great team and there's a rousing finale when they ride together for the last time to face the bad guys, I had tears in my eyes the first time I saw it.

One more poster hub and than its on to my 200th hub.

Thanks for posting.

Steve...I need to tell you something as well as thank you. Because of these particular hubs you write for your readers enjoyment.....you inspired me to start keeping my eyes open in antigue stores and various other warehouse type stores that sell EVERYTHING and anything. I've purchased 2 really GREAT Marilyn Monroe posters to add to my Marilyn Memorabilia collection!!! UP+++

Steve Lensman profile image

Steve Lensman 4 years ago from London, England Author

Thats really cool Paula, Marilyn was a true icon. She-who-must-be-obeyed won't let me put some posters up on the walls, which is ironic considering I've published so many poster hubs. When I was young my bedroom was plastered with posters, you couldn't find the door. :)

Glad you liked the hubs and thanks for posting!

Little hint.......see how She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed (I LOVE your attitude, Steve...all men should resign themselves to this!!)..........thinks about a poster, if it's one she likes, you get a nice frame for it and hang it in the perfect spot to add to the PERK of a room.........Posters by themselves really do belong in a yeen's room or in like a Home-Bar/Party area...........

We have a spare room which I'm planning to convert into a home theater and than I'm sure she won't object to a couple of framed movie posters.
