Believe it or not, I actually saw a few of these movies. I even have a few of them. Interesting hub. Voted up.

Ann1Az2, Mhatter99, thanks for commenting on my war posters hub, much appreciated.

I've concentrated on the well known war films of the period, movies depicting scenes of battle. Missing are films like A Matter of Life and Death where war isn't the main theme and The Best Years of Our Lives which is a drama dealing with soldiers returning home after the end of WWII.

Where's the nudity? Thoughts as I view your hub. (1) Dawn Patrol....never seen the movie...but that has to be a very young David Niven....and Donald Crisp is a favorite of mine. (2) I have seen Sergeant York a couple of times...not my favorite Hawks film by a longshot. (3) I will have to check out Commandos Strike at Dawn as I do not think I have seen many Paul Muni action films(Scarface is the only one I can think off) (4) The Italian poster for Sahara seems strange...but then again I guess I need to think about when it was released and where. (5) The Memphis Belle might be the best documentary ever....if only for all the good will it gave the people not fighting in the war. (6) It looks like John Wayne and Errol Flynn have the most posters....maybe it is time to do a Flynn hub.

Voted up and very interesting....number 199....almost to 200....keep up the great work my friend.

Thanks Bruce, your comments are always appreciated amigo.

No the Nude on the Screen hub will have to wait for now.

Donald Crisp a favourite eh, a good actor he usually plays the stern father, Colonel or Sir roles in films. Did you know he was a silent movie director? I don't mean he was very quiet on set I mean he directed a lot of movies in the 10's and 20's. :)

An Errol Flynn poster hub is a must, I've posted some of his best films already in this and the previous hub. But what about the swashbucklers?

The Sahara poster was strange that's why I left that one large and minimised the other Sahara poster. I love that some countries let their poster artist paint whatever he wants to advertise the film, not even sure that scene is in the film.

They flubbed the spelling of Lew Ayres name on the poster for All Quiet on the Western Front.

Great movies, great posters, great job! As always Steve you've covered this so well. Your explanations compliment every movie and as you know I've been 'involved' with war movies of late! That's a lot of movie posters to gather and a lot of movies to describe.

Voted up, awesome, and interesting.

Thanks Mary, appreciate the kind words. I have over 10,000 high quality movie posters and lobby cards on one of my drives at least I've found a good use for them. I enjoy compiling these and choosing which posters to display. And I'm glad there are other people out there that like these old posters. :)
