Dale Chihuly The Nature of Glass at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens Part II Indigo

So much blue, so much indigo

Haiku Indigo

I love the color indigo. The color is from an Indian (as in continent of India) dye that is much prized. It is extracted mostly from a dye that only grows in the tropics. It is the color of blue jeans. There is even an airline named Indigo.

Somewhere in the near and recent past everything indigo became mysterious and other-worldly. To say something is indigo means it is special.

These pictures reflect an indigo mood. A desert is very much indigo to those who do linger long enough to understand the majesty and the beauty. A desert is a paradox. The plants and animals are hardy to the desert and yet fragile to the rest of the world.

That is the indigo mystery of the desert to me. It is other-worldly and the mystery is lost on those who do not linger.

Why dream indigo?

Startling bright indigo?

Is that possible?

NMLady, I love Dale Chihuly's glass art! I have been following him for some time, in terms of loving to see exhibits like these. We have some in our area, very different from these, and that is part of what is so cool. The blues, especially the indigo are breathtaking.

We have family in Arizona, and do you know I missed a lot of that exhibit when we went there to the garden? I could tell it was wonderful though, because they still had some there, and were trying to raise funds to buy to keep it at the botanical garden. I sure hope they were able to! Thank you for sharing his beautiful artwork in photos with us. Truly amazing work by him, and a great gallery to go through. :)
