What's the Deal with DeviantART

Lately, I've been using a lot of photos from DeviantART in my Hubs so I finally decided to write a Hub about Deviant ART. First of all, I have to thank the artists of the DeviantART community for sharing their lovely artwork with the world.

What is DeviantART, you ask? Well, DeviantART is an online community for artists of every level. Just like HubPages, everyone is free to post their work (artwork) on the site where they can receive comments and there's even the possibility of making a little money.

A friend of mine introduced me to DeviantART a year ago. This friend actually isn't an 'internet buddy' by the way. She's a 'real person' who I've known since I was 7 years old.

Sara and I used to draw together all the time. That was our idea of fun... sitting on the bedroom or living room floor drawing the hours away. The only difference between us two is that Sara had a real passion for drawing so she did it much more than I did and surpassed my talents BY FAR.

When it comes to art, I'm still outdated. All I can do is sketches, charcoal and colour pencil drawings... yeah, so all that digital art... uh-uh, I'll leave that up to my buddy Sara.

But back to DeviantART... like anything else you post online, there's always the risk of someone stealing it. That actually happened to Sara before, I believe. Sara does a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender Fan Art and she learned to copyright her work the hard way.

On DeviantART you can post anything: digital art, painting, drawings, photography... you name it!

After being a 'Deviant' (under the name Trini-4-Life-91) for over a year, today I finally decided to post something. I quickly drew up an EXTREMELY ROUGH sketch of my favourite TV hero, Xena, and posted it. Sure the picture's all over the place; it's not very good but at least I have something to show. I also posted a photograph - both of my works are shown on the right of this text.

A Feature Picture by Sara

The picture above was created by none other than my friend, Sara. I was actually there the day she competed this digital masterpiece. She has only improved TREMENDOUSLY - and that's to say the least - since this picture, but the fact that I was THERE to see her do this picture is enough to make it my feature artwork of hers.

I was amazed watching her add the lighting effects and such. That day, I went home and tried to do digital art but everything turned out to be ABSTRACT!

You Too Can Join DeviantART

If you have any talents in the area of art - whether it's photography or drawing - you may just love DeviantART. The link is: http://www.deviantart.com/

Below are a couple more digital artwork by Sara. Please do not use without the author's permission. If you want her permission, contact her on her DeviantART site. Thank you!

Great artwork by Sara and your drawing does have a lot of detail so it sure looks like Zena to me. Good informative hub. I never heard of this site and will check it out. I like your photo. I would post photos there but my art is built from found objects. I like to up cycle things people throw away. Thanks for the info.
