BOO and the fun of Halloween

Ghosts and bats are two of the more popular characters featured in Halloween decorations. Although frightening in horror movies and sci-fi shows; these Cricut shapes for Halloween are adorned with smiles, round cheeks and say "BOO!" to the recipient of the card.

I wanted to have friendly little characters decorate the front of my BOO card. This created a playful and fun card for Halloween.

Halloween's Colors

For my BOO card I decided on the traditional Halloween decoration colors or Black, Yellow, and different hues of Orange.

I created the BOO phrase large to stand out on the front of my homemade Halloween card. Although the original cutout only required a shadow (larger) layer and a top (smaller) layer; I decided to create a second shadow layer, using only the middle "O" for an interesting background for the smiling face.

Cardstock - solid or white core

I've learned over the years that finding cardstock with a solid core is very important. For this homemade Halloween card the color scheme for the die-cut shapes is Orange, Black, and Yellow. Because my cardstock is solid-core those are the only colors you see, not white edges around each shape.

Solid core cardstock usually comes in color themed packs. The one I'm using for this card and others is a rainbow package; all the colors and variants in a rainbow included.

Step by Step Directions BOO

Take a piece of Heavy Cardstock for the base card. Using a paper trimmer, cut the piece to measure 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Fold the cardstock on the 8 1/2" edge for a finished base card measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

I chose a bright orange solid-core from a Fall themed cardstock pack.

Cut a piece of background paper to measure 4 3/4" x 3 3/4".

Adhere the background paper to the base card

I chose a fun black and white print from a multi themed cardstock pack. The paper is thinner which works great for a background piece.

Cut 1 <Ghost>, pg 58, size 2" using the Word and Ghost keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the top layer of the BOO phrase. I chose Black cardstock. Make sure you punch out the eyes and mouth on the face so the background can be seen through it clearly. I always use the fine point punching tool to do this.

Cut 1 <Headstne>, pg 58, size 2" using the Word, Shift, and Ghost keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the bottom layer of the BOO phrase. I chose Yellow cardstock for this layer.

Cut 1 <Headstne>, pg 58, size 2" using the Word, Shift, and Ghost keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out ANOTHER bottom BOO phrase layer. I chose Dark Orange cardstock and saved only the middle "O".

Adhere the Dark Orange "O" to the middle "O" of the Yellow BOO layer

Adhere those layers to the Yellow BOO layer.

Adhere the finished BOO layers to the bottom left of your base card & background

Cut 1 <Bat>, pg 59, size 2" using the Shadow, Shift, and Bat keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the larger bottom layer of the Bat. I chose Black cardstock.

Cut 1 <Bat>, pg 59, size 2' using the Shift and Bat keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the layer which allows the Bat's feet to show. I chose Yellow cardstock.

Cut 1 <Bat>, pg 59, size 2" using the Layer 1, Shift, and Bat keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the layer which allows the Bat's eyes to show. I chose a Dark Orange cardstock.

Cut 1 <Bat>, pg 59, size 2' using the Layer 2, Shift, and Bat keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the top Bat layer. Make sure you punch out, with your Cricut punching tool, the eyes and mouth on the Bat's face.

Cut 1 <Bat>, pg 59, size 2" using the Layer 4, Shift, and Bat keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the Bat's cheeks. I used Yellow cardstock.

Adhere the FEET layer to the bottom layer, then the EYES layer on top of that.

Finally adhere the top Black layer and finish with the Yellow Bat's cheeks.

Adhere the finish Bat to the top left of your card.

Cut 1 <Ghost>, pg 58, size 2" using the Shadow and Ghost keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the Bottom layer of the Ghost. I chose Black cardstock.

Cut 1 <Ghost>, pg 58, size 2" using the Layer 2 and Ghost keys on the keyboard template. This will cut out the Ghost's cheeks. I used Yellow cardstock.

Adhere the Yellow Ghost layer to the Black, then the Orange layer on top. Finally add the Ghost's cheeks.
