Steve, I guess I never realized how many horror movies there were back then-- and how many names I recognized that weren't well known to be in cheesy horror flicks. Was anyone really scared of the wolfman? I mean, come on, look at that "doo". Come to think of it, Dracula and his corny "Transylvanian" accent and the mummy (even someone on crutches could escape him) didn't send any shivers down my spine. Frankenstein never scared me... marsupials do.

UnnamedHarald, Mhatter99, thank you for commenting, always appreciated.

Were audiences really scared of these monsters? I think initially in the first Frankenstein, Dracula and Mummy films audiences were genuinely horrified and frightened but thanks to all the various sequels the monsters started getting laughs instead of screams.

I always thought the Wolfman looked more effective halfway through his transformation, by the time it was finished he looked like Chewbacca's mad uncle.

Wow I am ashamed to admit....I have only seen two of these movies....two....and I think I am a movie buff.....so which of these movies do you recommend? I noticed lots of Karloff in the posters...but then again this is right in his wheelhouse. Great posters and a fine addition to your movie poster series. Voted up and awesome...can I still vote if I have been slacking in this category of movies?

Hello Bruce, thanks for visiting my gallery of horror, 1940s style.

My favourite from this lot? Probably Jekyll and Hyde with Spencer Tracy, Ingrid Bergman and Lana Turner, seen it so many times.

House of Frankenstein was fun. Dead of Night and The Uninvited are classics of the supernatural. Cat People and The Body Snatcher are classic horrors.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was one of the two that I have seen.....I have seen most of Cat People but not enough to claim that I have watched it. Thanks for the recommendations....it is greatly appreciated.
