Easy to create Idea-a Homemade Valentine's Day card using a Cricut Cutting Machine
With my Cricut Expression die-cutting machine I made this Valentine's Day card featuring this sweet Cupid, hearts, and the traditional Valentine's Day greeting "Be My Valentine". Created using my new Cricut cartridge "Victorian Romance", this card took no time at all to make and includes just a few cuts and measurements.
Again my favorite colors were used, the reds, whites, and pinks. I like traditional colors for Valentine's Day. A heavy weight cardstock is my preference when I create cards with my Cricut machine. Even with a very sharp blade, a lighter weight paper can rip easily, destroying the intricate cutout.
This time I also used a "solid core" paper; which means the color of the outside shell of the paper is used all the way through. The result of this for crafters is when cut this paper shows only the true colors; no white or hints of white edges show. The paper wasn't that much more expensive and is a joy to use.
Supplies and Products
Cricut Cartridge: Victorian Romance
Cardstock: Red, White, Pink (solid core)
What you need for supplies
Pointy Tip Tool
Folding Tool (the 6 items listed are all included in the Cricut Essentials Kit, which I highly recommend being a part of a crafter's inventory
Scalloped Edge Scissors
Adhesive (I use adhesive which is applied with a sponge tip, goes on blue and dries clear)
Tiny White Flowers (these can be purchased at any craft shore; adhesive on back but i use my own to insure success)
Cut a piece of Red Cardstock to measure 11" x 4 1/4". Fold (on the short edge) for a base card measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". I use a folding tool makes the crease cleaner and sharper.
Cut a piece of Pink Cardstock to measure 8 1/2" x 4"
- If desired, use the scalloped edge scissors along the long edges of both the background piece and the base card itself.
Open the card to lay flat and adhere the Pink background piece of cardstock in the center as shown. Press firmly especially near the center so when it is folded there won't be a bulging crease. As you can see in my card, I didn't press firmly ;)
Leave the card open to allow the adhesive to dry.
Cut one <Valntine> size 4". This will cut the "Be My Valentine" phrase. I used White cardstock. Carefully and slowly remove the phrase from the cutting mat. Then Cut between A and the L for placement on the card.
Adhere the phrase to the card making the the letter straddle the folding area.
Cut two <HeartLyr> size 1 1/2". This will cut the large scalloped edge hearts. I used White cardstock.
Cut two <Heart> size 1 1/2". This will cut the large un-scalloped edge hearts. I used Red cardstock.
Cut three <HeartLyr> size 1". This will cut the smaller scalloped edge hearts. I used White cardstock.
Cut three <Heart> size 1". This will cut the smaller un-scalloped edge hearts. I used Red cardstock.
Adhere the two large white Hearts to the left of the phrase and one of the smaller white Hearts to the right.
Adhere the two large red Hearts on top of the white and the one smaller red Heart.
Press down the adhesive again and set aside while you cut the front shapes.
Cut one <Cupid2Bo> size 3 1/2". This will cut the bottom Cupid layer in White cardstock.
Cut one <Cupid2> size 3 1/2". This will cut the top Cupid layer in Red Cardstock.
Adhere the two layers together. Adhere the Cupid layers to the right side of the card front, at an angle.
Cut a piece of White cardstock to measure 4 1/4" x 4" and a Pink cardstock to measure 2 1/4" x 3 1/2".
- If desired, use the scalloped edge scissors along the long edges.
Adhere the White cardstock first then the Pink cardstock overlapping and on the left edge of the base card.
Adhere the remaining two White hearts to the top left.
- If you desire the cushioned look; adhere the puffy square to the Red hearts and press down in place over the White hearts. If not, simple adhere the layers.
Add the White flower to the centers of each Red heart.
Cut one <LOVE1> size 3/4". This will cut out the bottom phrase layer. I used White cardstock.
Cut one <LOVE1Lyr> size 3/4". This will cut the top phrase layer. I used Red Cardstock.
Adhere the phrase layers together
Adhere the phrase to the bottom left of the card.
