How To Draw A Wolfman

Drawing a werewolf is something that you can do if you are into all that horror stuff, of course The Wolfman film was a good film to draw some inspiration from and is probably the reason why I created this drawing tutorial. Werewolves are part of the undead world, similar to vampires in that they hunt at night.

And with the following drawing tutorial I thought I would have a go at drawing a wolfman that looks almost like the classic Wolfman except that it has better special effects instead of a black nose and daft wig hair

The first drawing sketch is the usual figure layout that needs to be done and like many other tutorials I've done, it's with the circles and other shapes that help represent the full figure in a very basic form.

Try and build your werewolf drawing up from the simple figure and work from there....

Refining The Wolfman Figure

There's always a lot of figure drawing refinement going on on these drawing tutorials and so it is a great idea to draw over your initial figure sketch by using a lightbox which I did with this drawing tutorial to show the steps of drawing a wolfman.

The basics of the main form and structure are still being mapped out, but you can see a progression between the first two sketches.

Drawing In The Wolfman Details

Other small details like the ripped clothes and hairy arms and the wolfman's face can be added with more details. This is the stage of drawing were you should see the drawing coming together, if not, start over.

I had an artistic wrestle with the feet as I wanted to draw claws coming out of the shoes, but then I thought what about I don't and just draw the shoes to leave a small remnant of humanity in there and say yes, he's a werewolf, but he still has his shoes!

All that needs to be one now is to finish off the pencils and start inking.....

Ink The Wolfman Pencil Drawing

Adding ink to your werewolf drawing is merely not about going over your pencil lines, it's about adding to them more, by extra details and different line weights if possible.

In the drawing below it I believe is an unfinished drawing as I wanted to do more with it, but that might be on Photoshop or using Gimp to create some extra depth.

Try drawing a wolfman today, but never on a full moon as you may find yourself in trouble.

Yeah drawing a werewolf is better than drawing a vampire and I am fed up with all that Twilight bollocks anyway, so bring on more wolfmen to draw....!

Cheers now!

I fancy the wolfman over the vampires and do not see what all the Twilgith fuss is about, but of course realize the love story grabs all the female attention, just like Titanic did.

This is great! Classic monster and easy-to-follow tutorial. I appreciate the point you made about the inking, adding more detail and different line widths does make a big difference. It's gorgeous in final form.
